Hi,
I really need some help on this please. I have Elizabeth Davidson & James Davidson marrying on 20/9/1790 in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire and Elizabeth Davidson & James Davidson marrying on 21/9/1790 in Birse, Aberdeenshire. I'm assuming it's unlikely that the same couple had 2 weddings?
The James & Elizabeth I am looking for had a daughter, Elizabeth, in around 1801 who married James Ritchie in Birse 1825. If anyone can shed any light it would be much appreciated.
TIA

It'll be the same couple - what is recorded in the parish records isn't the marriage, but the reading of the banns. The banns were read in the home parishes of both parties - so this couple must have been from different parishes.
Sometimes the banns were read in both parishes on the same day, but not always - sometimes quite a gap between them.

thank you thank you!

You should look at both entries as one sometimes gives detail that the other omits. 20/9/1790 was a Monday and 21/9/1790 a Tuesday.

Yes, I'd advise obtaining both documents too for the same reason.
