I am trying to trace my GGG grandfather and hit a dead end. What I know...
My GG grandfather was born in 1822 to GGG Grand father William Robinson and Sarah White. They both then dissapear off the records.
However I've just found a William a widower with father named William also marrying a Mary Ann Sheldrick in 1837. The have daughter Mary Ann in 1838' then William dies and his wife remarries a Henry Littlechild. Mary Ann 1838 with family until 1851 then????
The thing that caught my eye was the name Sheldrick as William and 1st wife had daughter Edith who married a Robert Sheldrick (I haven't been able to link the two Sheldrick's as yet)
My unanswered questions are:-
* When was GGG grandfather William born
* Who were his parents (other than William named) in 2nd marriage
* What happened to Mary Ann after 1851

I just find a 1822 birth a bit late for an 1837 marriage, and youve no death record or age at death to corroborate the 1822 birth year.

The Henry Littlechild marriage took place at Sawston 12 Nov 1840 (freereg)
Two possible deaths for William Robinson Chesterton RD before that marriage
ROBINSON, WILLIAM age 68 1839 Sept Quarter /CHESTERTON UNION Volume 14 Page 27
ROBINSON, WILLIAM age 34 1840 March Quarter /CHESTERTON UNION Volume 14 Page 35

There is a newspaper article Cambridge Chronicle and Journal 28 March 1840 about the estate of William Robinson the elder of Great Shelford which mentions a David Robinson so that is probably the one age 68.
Are you sure that the 1822 marriage to Sarah White wasn't the same William who married Mary Ann Sheldrick :-\
-
This 1807 Great Shelford baptism is a possibility for the 1840 death

William & Mary also had a son David which would tie in with William senior newspaper report

Probable marriage of William the elder to Mary

Pauline
You misread. The 1822 birth is son (also William) from Williams 1st marriage to Sarah White. 1837 is when he marries again to Mary Ann Sheldrick.
Forget the 1822 Wiliam (he dies early 1850s)

e
Possible but in another tree with William born 1807 ( I think from memory) which doesn't stack with marriage 1820 to Sarah white
William in 1837 2nd marriage was a widower. The 1820 and 1837 married Williams I believe are the same but not 100% proven

Rosie. Yes. Thought the name was familiar. Re visiting having found the 1837 2nd William marriage saying Widower (info from another tree who research the marriage) and having sound deaths for Sarah Robinson beforehand
Trying to find the missing link

At reply number 3 you contradict yourself regarding william b 1822 and marrying 1837
Why don't you look at the original parish copies of marriages to compare signatures on the 1820 and 1837 events?
-
Just trying to sort this in my head - If William bn c1822 is your gt gt g'father who is your gt g parent that descends from him. :-\
Is this it from your other post
Son William 1822-1851 married Harriet Pett (Sept qtr 1847)
Daughter Edith 1826 married Robert Sheldrick (Sept qtr 1854)

As you do not have William on census with place of birth how do you know that you have the correct one ie born 1822 Eversdon. Do you have the marriage between William & Harriet, what details does it give for him and his father

Pauline, you are right. I've crossed over both Williams..
Let's see timeline wise..
William elder marries 1st wife Sarah 1820
Son William born 1822
Daughter Edith 1826
William elder remarries 1837 to Mary Ann Sheldrick
Daughter Mary Ann born 1838
William elder dies between 1837 marriage and wife remarrying Henry Littlechild 1840
Factor in I need to prove the William who marries Sarah is the same one who marries Mary Ann. It stacks up but proving where I am at moment
Signatures an idea but travelling to see an issue at moment.

I'll go back thru my records but 100% William who marries Harriet is the 1822 birth. Will add that his sister Edith & husband Robert Sheldrick are in 1881 census with Susan Sarah and her husband Albert Brown

Thanks for the confirmation, yes Susan is with Robert & Edith in 1881 and William Thomas is with the Petts family in 1851. ;D It is starting to make sense now ;D
William & Edith were both baptised in Great Eversden.
When William marries Harriett Petts what information does it give for his father and who were the witnesses

I am not sure that the newspaper article is relevant. Pauline & I were working off the information you originally gave with a marriage date of 1837 when it should have been 1847.
My GG grandfather was born in 1822 to GGG Grand father William Robinson and Sarah White.
However I've just found a William a widower with father named William also marrying a Mary Ann Sheldrick in 1837.

1837 and 1847 marriages are different Williams
1837 is second marriage for William the elder to Mary annSheldrick
1847 is marriage of his son William born 1922

Could you please post the details from both of those marriage certificates including witnesses
