Cheeky! ;D
google doesn't throw up anything for Lauderdale Haugh or Lauderdalehaugh, but I am fairly sure that's what the document reads.

Thanks - such a great response....
Looking for hints from David's background but nothing suggests he or his family moved around much. Married Agness DICK in Linlithgow, West Lothian. David's father - is written; born in Abercorn, LInlithgow, also children born either in Abercorn or Linlithgow.
Maybe 'Lauderdale Haugh or Lauderdalehaugh' is the part of the property/estate/house of the Earl of Lauderdale? I have just goggled via 'ScotlandsPlaces - Parish of Lauder - Lauderhaugh!

The initial date is 178[ ]. Could be 1780 or 1788.

Most likely - 1788. David is born Jul 1, 1777 but first written in the church book in 1788!
Enclosed top page entry. I have wondered abt that date!
Death Roll 1851
David Meikle died at South Queensferry on the 2nd of Dec and was buried here on the 5th of the same, aged 75 yrs.

Kirkby Lonsdale, that is the kirk-town in Lonsdale
-
There is a Lonsdale Farm at East Kilbride, Glasgow, Scotland
-
Just a thought but as we are heading to the South end of Scotland it may be that the surname of 'Elisabeth Haugh' is a variant of 'HOGG' :-\
Could this thread be any connection?...

I think David was born Thirteenth July & baptised 15th July :-\
If he was born 31st July he would have had to be baptised the same day & it definitely doesn't look anything like 31st for his baptism ???

I have tried to enhance it as I see 15th :-\

TBH all I see now is 'of July' as if the actual day has been omitted.

Many thanks to all and I wasn't expecting such a response to my message even though I am still a in doubt! I now read:
Ecclesmachan 19 April 1788
David Meikle lawfull son to David Meikle Indweller in
Landerdale Haugh/parish and Elizabeth Hawgh was born thirty
first day of July 1777 and baptised of July before these
witnesses Wm Meikle and Andrew Cumminghan.
Indweller - I did find a Mr William Meikle paying Inhabited House tax in 1779, August 21.
1738-1798 Lauder Royalty - 1702, West Lothian parish of Abercorn. Yet to look at carriage, dog, watch, window taxes but I have spent many hours looking elsewhere!

Please - once again another look at David Meike ...
I read:
Ecclesmachan 19 April 1780
David Meikle lawfull son to David Meikle Indweller in
Landerlade Haugh/the parish? and Elizabeth Hewgh was born thir ?
first day of July 1777 and baptised of? July before these
witnesses Daniel? Meikle and Andrew Cummingham.
Still in doubt where there is a question mark after 3 these words!
Witness is not John but could it be Daniel? Mind you, no Daniels in this family.
Thanks once again for your help
