Good evening all!
I was wondering if anyone could help me with my Great Great Grandmothers Maiden surname, for a few years now I've been trying to find any records for what her family name was before she got married.
She married a George Pratt 01/01/1867 Leighton Buzzard - 1963 Leighton Buzzard in 1891
Her name was Louise ? 05/11/1866 Leighton Buzzard - 13/03/1948 Biggleswade
Many Thanks,
TJames

I was just going to post the same one!
If you think that maybe Smith wasn't her maiden name (ie she had been married before) then getting a copy of the marriage cert would conform.
Or, if you find the births of their children in the gro index, you can find their mothers maiden name there to see if it is Smith.

Good Evening,
Thanks very much to you all, i had a feeling she had the surname Smith as i'd found a few records that matched but the surname is so common it makes it pretty hard to trace back. I'll have a look into this as new paths have been opened.
Many Thanks

I've had a quick look through the newspapers and there is a reference to the 1891 marriage but unfortunately it doesn't give any more info than has already been posted.
Bucks Herald 12 September 1891
Marriages
PRATT-SMITH - At All Saints' Church, Leighton Buzzard, on the 3rd inst., by Rev. T W Richards, M.A., vicar, George Pratt and Louisa Smith, both of Leighton Buzzard.
Also, if Louisa was a Smith then George and Louisa may have had more children than were listed in the 1901 census...
GRO BMD references:
1893 Q1 Birth - Florence Louisa Pratt (mmn: Smith); Leighton Buzzard; 03b; 378
1896 Q1 Birth - Lilian May Pratt (mmn: Smith); Leighton Buzzard; 03b; 369
1897 Q4 Birth - Alice Maud Pratt (mmn: Smith); Leighton Buzzard; 03b; 380
1898 Q4 Birth - Thomas Pratt (mmn: Smith); Leighton Buzzard; 03b; 377
1900 Q2 Birth - George Edward Pratt (mmn: Smith); Leighton Buzzard; 03b; 407
1893 Q1 Death - Florence Louisa Pratt; age 0 (b1893); Leighton Buzzard; 03b; 246
1900 Q3 Death - George Edward Pratt; age 2m?* (b1900)[1]; Leighton Buzzard; 03b; 221
* GRO index has age as 2 but FreeBMD has age as 0, so I presume GRO index age is days, weeks or months, which would tally with the death notice of 2 months.
Leighton Buzzard Observer and Linslade Gazette
24 January 1893
Deaths
PRATT - On the 21st inst., at Southcourt Road, Linslade, Florence, infant daughter of George Pratt, aged 12 days.
Leighton Buzzard Observer and Linslade Gazette
17 July 1900
Deaths
PRATT - On the 11th inst., at Vandyke Road, Leighton Buzzard, George Edward, son of George Pratt, aged 2 months.
EDIT: [1] Corrected estimated birth year for George Edward Pratt, based on presumed age at death of 2m.

Also, if Louisa was a Smith then George and Louisa may have had more children than were listed in the 1901 census...
The 1911 census for George & Louie Pratt with 2 children, says they had 4 children, 2 living & 2 dead

This is all very interesting what you've managed to get together, the only thing i'm unsure about is the Thomas Pratt born in 1898. I'm not sure where he fits in really, but hopefully i can find out some more info on him. I'll make him my next priority.
Thanks

There's a possible marriage between Thomas Pratt and Lucy Charlotte Smith in Leighton in 1897, who may be the parents of Thomas.
1897 Q3 Marriage - Thomas Pratt & Lucy Charlotte Smith; Leighton Buzzard; 3b; 826
On the 1901 census it looks like the same family living in Watford, with son Thomas (born c1899, LB).
Ref RG13; Piece 1316; Folio 93; Page 22;
According to the GRO index there was only one Thomas Pratt born in LB around 1898, so Thomas Pratt just looks like red herring.
