Hi I'm looking for any records of estate workers, tenants or servants from this estate in Ballymena 19th century. Was owned by Mcartney family for 2 hundred years or so but was sold off to Mackie family 1930s. It's now used for events, weddings etc and has no records from theses times. My old Irish family of McLuskey's, McGlaughlin, Reilly's and McHenry's may have worked there 1820s upwards.

In fact it's a good 20 km from Ballymena, about 8 km south of Armoy and in the townland of Castlequarter.
I wish I'd known your interest 55 years ago, when my Dad was farm manager at Lissanoure for a while, and we could perhaps have found out. There are so many questions I wish I'd asked then, too! Sorry not to be able to help.

Many thanks for your reply. I've been touring Ireland for the last 2 weeks and tried to visit the estate but it's very private and they don't allow visits as it's a working farm and events centre. I did visit the nearby villages of Loughguile and Cloughmills though. It would be great to get on the estate someday. It looks beautiful on their website.

Sorry to hear you weren't able to have a look round. I vaguely remember a circular milking parlour, I think converted from a much older building. I also remember the family attending a sheepdog trial on the estate. As a bolshie teenager I was determined to be bored, but that was impossible! Was most impressed at the agility and intelligence of the sheepdogs. All the whistles and commands sounded the same to me, but I suspect the dogs knew in advance just what was expected of them.
I've asked my brother whether he happens to know whether there are any Mackies still around, but it'll be a minor miracle if he replies to an eMail. Perhaps someone else will know: they're a helpful lot, the RootsChatters.

Thanks again. It was a Mrs Mackie who emailed me a reply. Said that all the estate records were not part of their family takeover and would have been dealt with by the estate trustees at the time of the demise of the McCartney ownership. I'll ask the Glynns if Antrim historical society if they know anything.

You can check PRONI's e-catalogue to see what estate records are in their archives- seems like there might be some of the sort you are looking for-
