Hello There,
I wander if anyone knows where exactly this place was/ is please.
I found it on a baptism on Find My Past, for a sibling of one of my 5x Great Grandad's Henry Warren (1778-1846):
"George, son of Peter and Anne Warren of Brinksey Banks, near Stockport. Baptised March 25th 1771". From: "England & Wales Non-Conformist Births And Baptisms Stockport, Cheshire, England: Find My Past": https://search.findmypast.co.uk/results/united-kingdom-records-in-birth-marriage-death-and-parish-records?firstname=george&firstname_variants=true&keywordsplace=stockport&lastname=warren&yearofbirth=1771&yearofbirth_offset=0
It could even be "Brinksley Banks". The original image is not that clear.
George's Brother, Henry was born in Cheadle in 1778, and baptised in Stockport.
Any information would be gratefully accepted.
Thank you very much. :) ;)

Wonder if it could be Brinksway. There is a topic on here somewhere debating just where Brinksway was Stockport or Cheadle.
There was also a Brinksway Bank Mill at one point
Could be a spelling error on behalf of the curate.

It does look like Brinksey in the image

Yes. Thank you very much for this. Cheers. :)

Yes, definitely Brinksway although I've never heard specifically of Brinksway "Banks" before.
In case you don't know it, Brinksway runs high up along the top of the south bank of the rivr Mersey, west of Stockport town centre. Whether it is within Stockport or Cheadle depends on what date you're talking about as boundaries have changed several times in this part of the world ovr the last couple of hundred years.

Thank you for this. The baptism was in 1771. :) ;)

At that time, I think Brinksway was partly in Cheadle and partly in Stockport and suspect that the people you're researching would have been in the Stockport part as they chose St Mary. (The Mersey forms the boundary between Lancashire and Cheshire and leads to all manner of confusion as Stockport extended to both banks)
The Warrens were a relatively well known family at that time and I'm sure there are other threads on them - viz; Warren Street & the now demolished Warren Bulkeley pub.

Yes, there does seem to have been quite a lot of people with the surname of Warren, at that time in this area. :) ;)

Thanks for that link. I have fond memories of my aunt and uncle who lived up Lark Hill off Brinksway. From memory I think the some scenes of the film a Taste of Honey were filmed there

Thanks for the link. Yes, I think "A Taste of Honey" was filmed in various locations around Stockport - e.g. The graveyard scene at the bottom of Lancasheire Hill. St Mary's church is also famous. I remember my father coming home and saying that there must be something happening as the market place was full of sandbags. They were filming "Yanks".

Earliest map I can find - 1845.
There's mention of "Brinksway Bank Print and Bleach Works" (bottom right hand corner)
-
The Manchester Mercury, 4 July 1829, reported on an inquest held at the Bulkeley Arms, Cheadle, Mosley into a drowning where the body was found at Brinksway Banks, having fallen into the river at Portwood.

Yes, Brinksey Banks would be Brinksway; I can't think of any alternative.
My wife lived her early years on Brinksway and is very proud that her bath (galvanised tub) can be seen hanging on the outside of her then house in one of the scenes in A Taste of Honey!
