1841 census
William Castle born abt 1816 Radford
Sarah Castle born 1821 Radford
Mirah Castle born 1839 Radford
I have the family in the other census . They ended living in Staffordshire. eg 1851 Pelsell
Married Jun 1839 Rushall Staffordshire
His father was Joseph Castle and Sarah father was William Sparkes
There is a Joseph Castle with a son William in 1841 census but as there is no Sarah or Mirah figure this isn't his family '. Mirah has variety of spellings
I have in my notes William Castle with William and Charlotte ( I presume Sparkes as they are his wife parents) Very clever of me not having more details, was done in my early days of researching.. sighhhhhh
For the life of me I can not find that record again
Soooo if any one can put me out of misery be most grateful.
Thanking you

Hello Eds,
I can't find them on the 1841 either, however ... I realise Sarah's surname is transcribed as SPARKS on Free BDM, but the children (except Myra who I can't find) have mother's maiden name PARKES (or PARKS) on the GRO search.
Henry CASTLE mmn PARKS 1842 J Qtr RADFORD (15/621)
George CASTLE mmn PARKES 1844 D Qtr RADFORD (15/604)
Mary CASTLE mmn PARKES 1850 D Qtr WALSALL (17/235)
(Can't find Ann's registration?)
Charlotte CASTLE mmn PARKES 1854 S Qtr WALSALL (06B/472)
Esther CASTLE mmn PARKES 1857 J Qtr WALSALL (06B/562)
Modified to add: good find Kay ;)

Maddy - I also found the Parkes maiden name births. I wonder if the 1839 marriage is the right family

Wow, ta muchly every one.
The multi million $ q now is.. Why William with his parents and Sarah with her parents in 1841 census. The marr cert clearly shows SPARKES. Mirah was born 3 mths before they married. They had a son John who was born and died in 1840. Maybe they had troubles and went to parents?
Am curious abt the PARKS/ SPARKES. Someone's hearing dodgy?
Once again thanks for your help and saving my sanity

The census is a snapshot of where people were on census night, 6th June 1841.
It doesn't imply that they were living permanently at the address, just that they were there at midnight on the said date.

If you are keen to preserve sanity you must quickly learn not to expect perfect matches of names in records, especially in the nineteenth century. Spellings were not very standardised, and as you say, someone may have been a bit deaf, or possibly just wrote down a name he was familiar with; and many folk couldn't write, and weren't sure how their name should be spelt anyway.
And then there is the problem of misreading script ....

Yes indeed, thank you for your remarks
Tis good to know sanity prevails, thanks to you and all who have helped out
