Hi, RootsChat.
Today, I'm interested in what online genealogy courses you take to get your Genealogy Qualification(s).
- Which course did you take?
- What did you think of your chosen course?
- Any regrets you have from taking the said course?
Quite intrigued to find out what people have to say!
Thank you
Katie

The most widely recognised qualifications for those working professionally would be:
The University of Strathclyde Post Graduate Genealogical, Palaeographic & Heraldic Studies programme

The Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies courses:

University of Dundee Family & Local History

Yes they take international students.
Charges are all on the relevant websites - the university charges are as you would expect for courses at that level.
Pharos run short courses on specific areas of research, so are much cheaper, but they can be taken in groups to achieve intermediate or advanced certificates.

I took this several year back:
Pharos. Family History Skills & Strategies (Intermediate) Distance Learning Course. (they have a website)
I found it excellent. It covered 10 (I think) core subjects in some detail and was tutor led. There is a certificate qualification at the end. It wasn't cheap but it really helped finding search and source materials. At the time some of the tutors were members of the Society of Genealogists. It is time consuming but I feel it was definitely worth it.
I'd like to take the advanced course when I finally find the time.

For the courses listed by AntonyMMM above, there are more details on the AGRA website.

Could I ask why you want/need a qualification?

Jack, as you're in Oz, have you thought about UNE? I'd also enquire at AIGS in Vic. And SAG in Sydney have some sort of course

I'm already taking a course but wasn't finding the course very good so I was wishing to change. Plus also what Bookbox said :)
