Title: Bayview Terrace, Derry
Post by: TonyMcGartland on Saturday 09 September 17 16:01 BST (UK)
Would anyone have photographs of Bayview Terrace, Derry from around 1930-37 when my wife great-uncle Dr. Patrick Rock had an Eye, Ear and Throat Practice at 1, Bayview Terrace.

Can't help with a photo but I see from another site that you are aware of the eye & ear hospital also on the Northland Road. Quite near to it , there is Rock Road, running from Northland to Strand Road. Alot of our streets are called after prominent people in the city. I assume its for your Dr. Rock. I lived nearby and often wondered why it was called 'rock'.  I learnt something new today.  ;D

I've been in the city taking pictures of the actual property a few times as I live nearby, I was hoping to see something from the period 1930-37.

To be honest, I spoke to a historian in the City Council about the same street and he advised me that it was nothing at all to do with Patrick Rock.

Thanks anyway, very observant.

Sorry I made that assumption. !
The  hospital and Rock rd  are so close , its hard too believe there is no connection
I will put in on my 'to look into' list.
Hope someone will be of more help.

I'm grateful.

The Eye and Ear Hospital building is still in place on the Northland Road next time I'm passing I'll take a picture and of Bayview Terrace
I'll ask another local historian where the name for Rock Road came from
Best regards

Ive  spoken to a local Historian who is in his 80s and of very sharp and sound mind and he suggested that the Rock Road may have been from A geographical rock formation in that area.
He is not aware of your Doctor Rock but confirmed my knowledge that the Eye and Ear Hospital was on the Northland Road and as mentioned in my earlier post, the building still stands in the same location.
