Hi Guys
Struggling to find the maiden name of Duncan's wife.
His daughter Elizabeth's death certificate from 1880 shows only her mother's first name Elizabeth.
1841 shows the family at Ledside Old Machar -
Duncan Thomson 60
Elizabeth 50
Elizabeth 25 wool spinner
Peter 20 linen weaver
Ann 20 wool spinner
Jean 15 wool spinner
Alex 15 gardeners apprentice
and granddaughter Mary Smith 5.
1851 shows the family at 59 Huntly Street Old Machar
Duncan Thomson 74 born Midmar
Ann 29 " Aberdeen
Jane 20 "
Mary Smith 13 " granddaughter
Elizabeth Boyd 7 " granddaughter
I think this is Duncan's birth and parents - 26th November 1777 Midmar to Peter Thomson and Anne Ingram.
I've tried to find Duncan's death in OPR and Statutory Deaths to no avail. Also can find no trace on OPR of his childrens' births which would have hopefully given their mother's surname.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Regards Jen

Assuming the 1851 census says Duncan is a widower, then Elizabeth must have died between the censuses. If he survived until 1855 or later, his death certificate would give Elizabeth's maiden name. If not, it would appear on the marriage certificate of any of his children who married in or after 1855. It would also appear on the death certificate of each of his children.

Have you looked at the 05/02/1815 marriage at Keig, a Duncan Thomson and Elizabeth Cobbon ?
Sometimes spelt (Cobban).
At least 4 of the children's names are the same under a quick search of S.P. using the parent's names.

- Elizabeth b. 1814, Keig
- Ann b. 1817, Old Machar
- Peter b. 1819, Old Machar
- Jane b. 1820, Old Machar
- Alexander b. 1821, Old Machar

Hi Guys
Thank you all so much for your help in solving the puzzle of Duncan's wife's maiden name of Cobban/Cobbon, and especially their date and place of marriage in 1815. A real bonus as I was completely stuck due to the fact that her maiden name was left blank on their daughter Elizabeth's death certificate.
It opens up so many channels for me to research now, so once again thank you all.
Regards
Jen
