Title: William Pitham birth circa 1869/70
Post by: BPittham on Thursday 31 August 17 14:10 BST (UK)
Hello again, I'm still searching for my GGF birth and would appreciate any help please.
William Pitham, born circa 1869/70. He married 13/7/1893 to Margaret Howard at Church of the Assumption, Wexford.
Age stated as 23, Father named as James.  Occupation Fisherman.  Residence Faythe.
Witnesses George Murphy and Mary Boyle.

The only birth I can find is registered as parents William Pitham and Mary Reilly.  Our surname is now usually spelt Pittham

Thank you so much

I would say father James is an error he's listed as a dealer
While William Pitham is listed on his children's marriages as Fish Dealer/Dealer/Shoemaker

thank you dathai for your input.  I have looked at this family for 2-3 years believing we were linked but couldn't work out how.  I will bow to your expertise and assume that William is of our family.  It does make perfect sense.  I guess I was hoping for a proven link.  I hope I can touch base the people on the Pithams of Wexford Town again as know so little of our family.  Once again thank you

There is an issue here. The putative parents, William Pitham and Mary Reilly were from Enniscorthy, and their children were born in Enniscorthy, not Wexford.

Is this William and Margaret in 1901?

If their ages are correct here then perhaps they were both underage in 1893 and marrying without permission, hence the possibility of white lies.  Are Margaret's father's details correct?

It is odd that they have been married for so long and only have one child aged 11 months, so maybe it isn't them.

I can see now that all of their previous children died as infants.

Hi Debra, thank you for the info.  Yes that is William and Margaret on the 1901 census.  I think I have the birth for Margaret Howard on 1/3/1873, Wexford to Peter Howard and Jane Murphy Howard so her details are correct on the marriage certificate.  Her age was stated as 20 and Williams was 23.

Hi,

My GG grandfather was William's brother Paul (born 1873) and their parents were William  and Mary (Reilly) both born about born 1845.

I don't know where William snr. was born but I do know that his father was James and his mother was Maggie Howard both born about 1825

I have William as being born 1869-1870.

It said on Pauls marriage certificate that William snr. had died before Paul was married in 1896.

I hope this is of some help.

James.
