Hi All
I have been looking for an ancestor for some time who just seemed to vanish post the 1911 census.
Ethel May Sugars born 1894 Lancashire, daughter of Henry Thomas Sugars & Ann Elizabeth (Lizzie) Sugars nee Reygate.
I have managed to get a copy of the burial plot in Nelson, Lancs where her mother and father are buried and to my surprise an Ethel May Green is also buried there who died in 1920 aged 26 so clearly she got married, this is where the trail goes cold i can find no marriage whatsoever and if they had any children, all i can find is a Lizzie Green born and died 1920 in the same area, Lizzie was her mothers name.
I obtained the a marriage certificate of her sister Edith Catherine from 1927 again in Nelson, Lancs and it is witnessed by Willie & Mary A Green, the first time i have seen any Greens in the family.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Rosie
Yes very true, thanks.

And as you found
Births Mar 1920
Green Lizzie MMN Sager Burnley 8e 495
Deaths Jun 1920
GREEN Lizzie 0 Burnley 8e 292
But there is also
Births Mar 1920

so either registered under an alternative name or a twin as page number the same.

Thanks, yes i am just looking at that and wondering if they were twins but i also found the death of Lizzie in Burnley a few months later

"Sagar" is not an uncommon name in that area of Lancs. Has Lancs Parish clerks online got any who may be relevant? Worth a hunt.
-
Indeed a very common name, 'Sugars' is far less common but i have seen 'Sugar' written as 'Sagar' on certificates before.

I've just come upon a marriage that may be known to you already:
Elizabeth Ann REIGATE m Henry Thomas SUGAR on 20th Feb 1887 , Clapham Bedfordshire. Any use?
-
Thanks yes i am aware of that one
-
Sorry. Just I've spent a little over 3 hours hunting around and can't get any closer. Even tried local history sites for small areas round Nelson, plenty of the surnames, no first names that can be fitted in - yet.

Thanks.
I have found that the marriage found by another contributor of Ethel M Sagar and Willie Green is very likely to be hers, the dates and places tie up, Willie Green appears on her sisters wedding cert as a witness.
I have ordered marriage cert to be sure.

Do let us know the details on the certificate when you get them...

Yes, I think we've all become intrigued with this one.

I think that probably is his 2nd marriage - on freebmd it gives Mary's middle initial as A.
That would tie in with 1939 free search for Willie Green 1895/Mary Alice Green 1 more person & 2 closed in Nelson M.B
