Hi all
I am very fortunate to have the WW1 war diary of my great uncle from his time on HMS Falmouth. There are a couple of pages where the writing is very faded and I wondered whether it is possible for others to assist in identifying any information.
I have attached a scan of the page. Obviously the bottom of the right hand page is readable, but there is faint writing on the rest of these 2 pages. It is not from susbsequent writing on the back of the corresponding pages.
I can make out that the top of the right hand page says "HMS Falmouth football matches for July" so I think it will be details of various matches as shown at the bottom of the page.
Any help would be appreciated.

LH page top seems to be a list of expenses
first line looks like : Galley / Golby Way ? ? ?
2nd line " " . . . . . . . . . . . . 2/9
then
The ?Scots Greys 1/9
The Reg Home Band 1/3 or maybe 10/3
?Flagcold ?? Key ??Dep ?1/3
Other page: As you worked out - HMS Falmouth football matches for July
Line above Friday 23rd could be - Royal Scots ??
2 lines above that - Aug 9th v. ?Cordelia ?Border--

Sorry I couldn't do more. Some more visible on RHS but without knowing names of places, makes it a bit difficult to fill in the blanks. :P :P :P
Maybe if you try the Auto Correct in Picture Manager, on the jpg, you might recognise a bit more.
If you're not sure how to do this, let me know. What version Windows are you using?
Word of warning - make a duplicate of your jpg file before playing round with it, cause if you Auto Correct too much there's no going back. ::)

Does this help ?

Thanks all for your help and suggestions.
Some of it definitely fits, so IO will use that information.
Thanks again.

You could try an ultra-violet light.

Maybe they (they being his fellow shipmates) were betting on the football matches, and he was the one to keep track??

Here's another look, in colour with an emboss effect.
