Hi
I have some photos of ship mates - apprentices with the Morel Brothers Shipping Co of Cardiff. Written on the back is Taffy Eynon and cousin. I presume being a Cardiff company it's likely the lads were from Cardiff or surrounding districts. Can you shed any light on Taffy Eynon as I would like the family to have the photo.

To be honest I thought Taffy was like a nickname for a Welsh person like Jock for a Scottish person.
If you search for Taffy first name on BMD index not a lot comes up :-\

You are exactly correct us Welsh boys are all Taffys' - Taffy is a nickname. Okay, it is a case of looking for the needle!! but fingers crossed, someone just might recognise Taffy and claim the photo.

Hi Dannemois
My grandmother's maiden name was Eynon but the family was from Trimsaron in Carmarthenshire. The reason that I am replying to you is because the blonde young man in the photograph looks very much like my cousin's son and like her father when he was young. While none of my grandmother's brothers lived in Cardiff as far as I know, it is possible that maybe one of her uncles may have lived there. The likeness is quite uncanny so maybe there is a connection of some sort. Any idea of the year photograph was taken?

Thanks for your message; the photo is dated 1926

My great uncle was an Eynon who was an apprentice in the 1920s in the Morel shipping company. He went on to become a Master Mariner.

That is interesting Trefgraig. Do you have any further details of the family? My grandmother was Ellen Eynon daughter of Arthur Eynon and Elinor Philips, she was born in 1875. She had lots of brothers an sisters and so did Arthur so I wonder if there is a connection.

Also just thought that the cousin looks like my grandfather’s family. Ellen married David Davies and he had brothers who were younger than him. One of them was a seaman. Not sure of the name could have been Thomas Roger or Sidney. It is just a thought.
