Hi Everyone
Just been notified of free Ancestry this coming weekend. Unfortunately I won't be able to make use of it but hope some of you can.

Thank you for posting this. Is this via the .uk site?
Does it mention which records are included?
-
Thanks for the heads up? Is there a code needed?

Ancestry free weekends never require a special code. They send emails to people who have had a fairly recent subscription. I use it for free at the local library and as the library version allows you to arrange to download documents at home, sending you an email with links to the documents you chose to save, I suspect they must use the email address you have to enter, to contact potential new customers.

Here we go again ..................!
Anyone know when FindMyPast is having another freeloading session; I've let my subscription lapse.

Thank you Sheila. This Ancestry information is greatly appreciated.

I'm on a month's sub with FindMyPast at the moment for £8.95, and I have already had good value after only a week. I've also remembered to untick the Auto-Renew box ....

Thanks for sharing :)

Yes, I forgot to say that. I used the free My Heritage access last week, to track the siblings of a direct ancestor through from 1851 to 1911 in Northumberland and Durham, which was all new ground. Having free access to Ancestry this weekend is another bonus. I am spending my money on sending for GRO certificates as I have tracked down all my own branches and I'm just filling in some more of the details on the Clough tree I'm doing for my husband. It's his grandmother's family. He's never moaned about the time I spend on this hobby, but knew nothing about his own family lines. I think I've got him hooked now. ;D

thanks for that ;D

Does anyone know if access is restricted? I'm in New Zealand, and I can get to the .co.uk site and see the free access button, but it automatically reloads as .com.au and I can't do a thing.
I've taken the weekend off specifically and really want to get in!
-
I am in NZ and cannot get access to the free records.
Carol

You should be able to Carol. I've been on since yesterday morning our time (before it officially started).
I've logged in via www.ancestry.co.uk and it's not booting me off.
Perhaps you need to log out of the Australian site first and start again.
-
Log in via hurworth's link and stay on .co.uk, don't click on the free access button.
Debra :)

I am in.
As soon as i logged in it sent me to .au so logged out. Went back into .uk and did not log in. Was asked did i want to go to .au or continue at .uk. I chose .uk and am now able to search. (still not logged in)
Thanks
Happy Carol
P.S Just looking for one family member.
-
Nope :-( I am logged out of everything, turned location off on my device - it still reloads as .com.au no matter what I do.
-
Use the link herworth put up. Do not log in. It will ask if you want the .au site or continue with .uk. Click continue with .uk. Go into Free access to UK and Ireland. After you have put a name in and you get results you will then have to log in but it stays with the UK site.

Had to switch to a different browser that I've not used Ancestry on before! I'm in, but it's not behaving nicely. Giving me limited results, but keeps taking me to subscription pages.

Not all records are free ::)
Not all UK records are free.
The included data collections are listed after the Search Box on this page:
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/group/uk_irish_records?o_iid=81170&o_lid=81170&o_sch=Internal+List

I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, but the list includes Wiltshire baptisms, marriage and burials. However the images for baptisms I would like to check out are not coming up. I'm being redirected to a page that asks me to subscribe.

Isn't that probably the idea of the free access? They dangle a carrot so that you know what records they have, but if you want to see the actual images you have to subscribe. As a long time subscriber, I fully agree with that, otherwise what is the point of subscribing at all?
-
I don't intend to ever be a "long-term" Ancestry subscriber. I prefer the way Findmypast does it whereby you have perpetual access to records you have viewed during the period you had a ssubscription.
I'm getting to lean pickings with the nicely bushed-out tree so a sub at Ancestry currently isn't worth it. I've had subs in the past.

It could be that the most recent additions on the site, including Wiltshire parish registers (added only a few months ago) are not being made available this time. You may have to wait for the next free weekend (if there is one!)
Yes, if you attempt to use a different ancestry to the one for where you are located, i.e. ancestry.co.uk when you are in Australia or New Zealand, or vice versa, they will offer to "redirect" you. As Carol said, you need to click on "continue to", or you will be stuck.

I had the same problem once when I wanted to access the Canada site from UK. Kept being sent back. From memory, the solution was to clear cookies for ancestry.ca
Then start over again!

I'm having no difficulty at all accessing the, albeit slow, UK records. Perhaps it's because I've paid for the privilege!

The Witshire images are coming up now, but I'm using the FindMyPast transcripts to find (and correct) them as there's some doozy transcription errors.
