Title: Mary JENKINS - Child Who Drowned
Post by: susie89 on Sunday 13 August 17 20:02 BST (UK)
Hi

I am looking for any newspaper reports on the drowning in Aberdulais Neath, of the above named child.  She was born in 1873 and died in 1880 in Neath.  Her parents were William Jenkins and Mary Jenkins (Nee Morgan).  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Susie

Hi

Yes I saw that article and another one which mentioned another child named Jenkins who had died 6 weeks earlier.  The date is wrong, the child I am looking for died in 1880

I have searched and searched but can't find anything.

Thanks for your help

Hi Susie,
In addition to http://newspapers.library.wales there is at Swansea Central Library (at the Civic Centre) a cabinet full of reels of micro-film of local newspapers, some of which cover the Neath area.  Your profile gives no indication (in vague terms) as to where you live, what chance you would be able to reach Swansea Civic Centre Tuesdays~Sundays.

I have no knowledge of wether or not similar facilities are available at Neath Library.

Also I see the deaths of two, seven year old 'Jenkins' girls were registered in the Neath Registration District in 1880: a 'Mary Ann' during the third quarter and a 'Mary' during the fourth quarter.  It would be exceedingly advantageous to know within a tighter 'time window' the date of death of the youngster prior to searching the library's collection of micro-films.

The Home Page for Swansea Library service is: http://www.swansea.gov.uk/libraries and for the Neath & Port Talbot Library Service is: https://www.npt.gov.uk/1214

Hi JohnG

Mary was buried on 20 Nov 1880, she was born on 20 June 1873, she is buried in St. Catwg Church, Cadoxton, Neath with her parents.

I will try and do what you suggest and go to the library.

Thanks for looking for me, much appreciated

Susie
