Morning all
I was wondering if anyone may like to help me a little as I no longer have membership to ancestry or FindMyPast.
William Young 1791-1849 married Mary Towney 1795-1850.
They had the following children, James, William, Emma, Mary Ann, Augusta and John.
I believe they were living in Scotland.
I'd be interested to know where William and Mary lived as well as finding out who Williams parents were?
Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Where the children born in Scotland ?
Young is quite a common name so the more info the better.

Williams son John was my ggg grandfather. His son who was also called John, my gg grandfather was born in Scotland and moved to Manchester where my g grandfather John was born.
What I'm trying to say is that Williams grandson was born in Scotland, so I can only assume that his father was......

Hi Trish
I don't think so.
January 30th 1848 John Young married Sarah Weaver.
The residence was simply recorded as Harpurhey, (Manchester)
I'm not aware of any of my Johns marrying a Margaret.
John Young my Great grandfather married Janet Hackesley
His mother was Martha Ellen Young.
His grandfather was John Young who married Sarah Weaver
This John Young's father was William Young who married Mary Towney.

Ok, here are the dates. Just dug them out... :)
John Young married Janet Hackesley 23rd October 1897
His father was unknown and he lived at 16 Lindley Street, Manchester at the time with his parents.
Her father was James Hackesley and she lived at 49 Baguley Street. Manchester
Next would be Martha Ellen Young(The above John Youngs mother) marrying George Leishman April 11th 1885
Her father was John Young and address was 88 Husband Street, Albert Memorial
John Young married Sarah Weaver January 30th 1848.
His father was William Young and address given was simply Harpurhey.
Her father was George Weaver and address given Harpurhey.
The above are all in order....does it make sense? too many John Youngs! lol

I forgot to then follow on with John Youngs father William Young.
He married Mary Townley. I have tried to ammend the subject line in the original message as it reads Towney without the L.
All I know of these two so far are the dates.....
William Young 1792-1849
Mary Townley 1795-1850

Yes Jim, you have it. I just took for what seemed like forever typing that out below! He he.
The name Townley has an L. My predictive changed it to Towney.

Have you found William & Mary in 1841/51 ?

How does this searcg fit with fact that John who married Janet has father unknown on his marriage?
I can see an adopted child on1881 who;d fit the bill

Yes, he was recorded as adopted child. His birth mother was Martha Ellen. She gave birth to him before marrying her husband George Leishman. George must have taken John on as his own adopted child.
I have Johns birth certificate to confirm his mum.
She was a servant at the time of Johns birth.
I also found a John Young of the same age on the census living with Matilda Hassall but just can't link this to my family tree unless she was looking after him whilst his mum Martha Ellen was at work.

OK - I;d misread it as his father being John Young, not his grandfather.
Following back I can see John, Martha's father, b c1827 in Manchester. On 1861 he has sister Augusta b c1840, also in Manchester with him (definitely him - he has Weavers living with him). This leads me to this on 1841, in Blackburn St. all listed as born in county.
Wm Young 50
Mary Young 46
James Young 18
John Young 16
William Young 13
Emma Young 10
Mary Ann Young 4
Agusta Young 1y 6 Mo
HO107, 575, 26, 8
Where does the scottish link come in?

I think I may have got the Scottish link from the Leishman family. The names you have mentioned are all right!
