Title: Look-up request/suggestions: Haigh and Lumb
Post by: zoobiscuitz on Saturday 29 July 17 18:35 BST (UK)
Hi,

I've been looking for the names of the parents of two of my ancestors.

One is William Haigh, born around 1797 in Stainland, Yorkshire. I suspect that his father is Joseph Haigh, listed in the 1841 census alongside William (spelt Willm). However, I have not been able to find a record of William's birth or his marriage to wife Hannah.

Hannah, William's wife, is the other person whose birth I am trying to trace. The "Benjn" Lumb listed with the family in 1841 appears again with the family in later censuses, always listed as either William's brother-in-law, or Hannah's brother when she is a widow and head of the household. Using the name Hannah Lumb has not found me any conclusive results.

Here's a brief summary of the 1841 census:

Place: Halifax
Residence Note: Fox Stones
Joseph Haigh age 74-78
Willm Haigh age 40-44
Hannah Haigh age 25-29
Joseph Haigh age 4
Rebecca Haigh age 1
Benjn Lumb age 30-34
All household members born in Yorkshire.

If anyone can help me trace the parents of William and Hannah I'd greatly appreciate it.

Zoe

The witnesses were Ann Eastwood and Amos Crowther. Amos signs on several marriages so may well be a Church Warden.

This is possibly Hannahs brother Benjamins baptism and would explain why she named a daughter Susan:

St Bartholomew, West Scammonden
Benjamin son of John a cotton weaver of Slack and wife Susan late Hamer
Born 9th February, 1807 and baptised 8th March, 1807

Slack is just below Barkisland

Can`t find her baptism at the moment.

Thanks, I really appreciate the help!

This has been a brick wall in my research for quite some time!

Baptism St. Bartholomew, Ripponden
26th March, 1815
Hannah Lumb, daughter of John and Susy, Weaver of Barkisland
This matches her age on later census

Added family search have added a death for the above. but it is not correct.  The Hannah who was buried on 6th July 1819 was an infant (under 1) the daughter of John Lumb of Rishworth and wife Betty.

Thanks, I was just about to mention the death of Hannah in 1819.

I think John and Susy is the best lead so far :)

John Lum and Susannah Hamer married at St. Mary, Elland 14th April, 1805.  Both made their mark.  Witnesses were two church officials by the looks of it.
