Hello, I am looking for Edith Margaret Anson Born in 1890/1891 to I think 1961 (Died in Liverpool - I think). Can anyone tell me if she married or not I cant believe she went through life without being married? Any help would be much appreciated as I have drawn abit of a brick wall. I know where she was born, I know she was a chambermaid for Lickhill Manor and also the Queens Hotel in Cheltenham, but that's all I have.
-
Edith Margaret Anson registered Q2 1890 East Stonehouse, Devon mmn Hawking.
1891 census has her at home with her parents Edward & Mary Anson both 33 he a mariner and siblings Annie & Charles.

There is a death of an Edith M Anson registered Jun 1961 Liverpool South which would imply that she died a spinster.

Many Thanks, how do I find out where she would be buried? I did find a grave but it came up with nothing.
-
You might need the death certificate to see where she died and then try the nearest churches to this address.

-
Could have been buried in a cemetery rather than churchyard but why would you think she must have married- lots of people died unmarried :-\
-
I don't suppose anyone would have a photograph of this lady she is my great grandmother and I have no idea what she looked like. I just though that she may have married so I could look up her married name also, but turns out she died a spinster.
-
Hi,
There is a probate entry for her which gives her address when she died, that might help narrow down where she was buried or cremated.
ANSON Edith Marguerite of Flat 3 7 Hawarden Avenue Liverpool spinster died 23 Apr 1961 at Sefton General Hospital Liverpool Administration London to the solicitor for the affairs of the Duchy of Lancaster. Effects £1039 17s
You can get a copy of the will here,

Daisy

Have you found her in 1939, just to see who she was living with?
-
What was your grandmother's name and where and when was she born?
-
Gibel,
A tree on Ancestry has Edith's SON as Gordon Kitchener Perry, and free bmd as Gordon K Anson mmn Anson born in Kidderminster in 1915.

contact me if you find any connection to Garston Anson family - my Uncle Reg is still alive ( mums brother ) in his 90's - I will ring him to see if we had an Edith Anson in the fold .
Hawarden Avenue is 4 miles from Garston - I don't know exact years without checking my tree - but here is the family

yes Chempat - that is my granddad - strange that all his brothers were Roberts all their lives - he was born Roberts but named Anson all his life and died as Anson - I wonder whose that tree is - even more intrigued now ...Forden is 5 miles from Welshpool - he grew up in Astley ,Shropshire 5 miles from Shrewsbury and came to Garston as a teenager ....his mother was born in Astley as Martha Adams 1865 - so no Anson connection there
-
His brothers?
Rupert Wilfred Anson mmn Roberts 1908 West Derby
Ronald Alfred Roberts mmn Adams 1903 Forden
Added:
Martha's first marriage?
Marriages March quarter 1885
Martha Adams Forden 11b 238
Matthew John Roberts Forden 11b 238
Children?
Richard William Roberts mmn Adams 1886 Forden
Robert Arthur Roberts mmn Adams 1888 Forden
These sons under second names and surname together, with no parents (though specified as sons) in 1901 census.
-
Mathew Roberts was jailed for Bigamy - and when he came out of prison he came to Garston and Martha took nhim back - thyere were also twins - the first 2 born to Mathew and Martha...but only Reginald Percival was known as Anson - I am presuming he was born when Mathew was in jail ??
-
My 1st thought was that Edith's boyfriend was killed in WW1. She was one of hundreds of thousands of "spare women" whose potential husbands had perished in the war.

Thanks for the replys, Im unsure how to reply to each of you Edith Margaret Anson was born 1890/1891 Stonehouse, Devon. Her Father was Edmund/Edwin Anson and mother was Mary A Hawking. Her son by Charles Perry was Gordon Kitchener Anson then he took on the surname of Perry. Edith worked at Lickhill Manor as a chambermaid and also the Queens Hotel in Cheltenham as a chambermaid, then Im presuming a hotel in Liverpool and she died in Liverpool on 23rd April 1961 as a Spinster. her siblings were Charles / Kathleen / Henry / Steven Lennox / Thomas/ Sarah. I cannot find a photo of this lady (my Great Grand Mother) thou, sadly it was all kept very quiet of who she was.
-
Also the Tree on Ancestry is mine with Edith Anson and Charles Perry, again many Thanks for all your help.xx
-

Dear All,
I've just come across this discussion - Rupert Wilfrid Anson was my Grandfather. He was married to Lucy for over 60 years and had eight children, 2 died very young and of the others Ronald (died 2017), Peter (2016) Anthea (My mum - 2011), Joan (early 00's), Pauline and Jean still with us.
Rupert and Lucy lived in Garston/Speke area for many years and moved to Cheshire to be nearer to Joan and Anthea.
I've been looking for more information for a long time, notably since I saw a post on a similar site by a Pat McPartlin (McParlin?) also looking for my granddad. Stating that he was a long lost uncle - which makes sense as before he passed, there was rumour of a brother no one on our side was aware of.
My father passed in 2016 and I found dozens of photos, some dating back to early 20's with all manner of people no one can ID...maybe they can be of some use?

It's possible I may have a photograph - I wouldn't necessarily know her image but her name may well come up on one or two photographs I have inherited. Please see my other post!
-
Andrew, wouldnt it be wonderful if you come across her although I dont think Ive come across a Rupert Wilfred in our tree.
Kindest Regards
Claire
PS If you find a picture please let me know I would to know what she looked like.
-
Hi Claire,
I'll look through the photos and see if I can see any reference to Edith.
Rupert Wilfred Anson was mentioned in reply #14 of this thread so I assumed the connection and some of the other names are familiar to my family too. There was always talk of another side to my grandads family that we didn't know about and some research was done, so I think there is a connection...I'll try to find my mums family tree too. That may help

Just checked my tree - Rupert is in it b 1908 ...Rupert W Anson was my Grandads brother - Reginald Percival Anson - and their mother Martha - I remember very well ...my mum took me to her house in Otway Street, Garston most days until she died ...she was 96 when she died ...I remember that day very well ..
So ...if you want a family tree of Martha nee Adams b 1863 in Astley by Shrewsbury - Ruperts mum - I can go back to 1790 :) Marthas parents via father to 1808 :)

Pat was in touch with me 5 years ago - her dad was Mathew ( Marthas husband and Wilfreds dad ) son to the other lady over the road in Otway st - Mathew left Martha and moved in over the road to live with another lady ...
skeleton in the cupboard....lol
-
Wow! I'd love to see that tree. One of my cousins has been researching too but also stumped at certain points. I'm sure we would be able to complete some information on that particular branch if there is any missing.
Essentially that makes us second cousins though? Am I right?
Thank you ever so much for the information - it is certainly clearing up a few questions I had. We knew about the skeleton just not in what form it took as, if I remember rightly, Grandad (Rupert) let slip a few details as he suffered from Alzheimers briefly before he died. I remember it rocked my mum a little.
I attach a picture of Rupert - no date but I would guess mid-late 20's and a postcard to Otway St sent from Arklow.
And, just in case, one of my favourite pictures - I don't know who these boys are but definitely family, difficult to put a time stamp on
To follow due to file size!

Sorry - having massive problems uploading the pics

I cannot ever recall meeting Rupert - but he looks like my Uncle Fred Anson there :)
My Family Tree sent to you via PM
If you are in Merseyside maybe we could meet - I am in Garston still ... :)
-
Andrew - my brother Steven tells me he was in your house to see Uncle Rupert and Aunty Lucy a lot with my mum and dad - so - I don't remember meeting your mum and dad - do you remember Les and Enid Oakes - my mum and dad ???...anyway - we are 2nd cousins - your GRANDMOTHER was my g grandmother - Martha Adams b 1865 Astley ,Shropshire and lived in Astley House - she died in Speke ,Liverpool in 1959/60 in Irene( Anson )Harveys house and she was 96 when she died ...she was one of 13 children ..family rumour is that Martha was from a well to do family and she ran off with Mathew Roberts the Gardener at Astley House :)
-
Steven has just txt me to say he met you at your mums funeral in the 1990's
:)

Hi Every one, Any news regarding Edith Margaret Anson?
-
Was there any useful information in her will?
-
Not really she is named as Edith Marguerite Anson died 23rd April 1961 at Sefton Hospital, she lived at Flat 37 Hawarden Avenue, Liverpool She was a Spinster, she died falling off a bus in Liverpool and there was an enquiry about it.
-
That sounds like her death certificate, not her will?

Sounds more like a death certificate than Will to me- Will wouldn't give cause of death or mention of an inquiry.
