Title: Galvin/Ryan families
Post by: roxy51 on Thursday 20 July 17 07:43 BST (UK)
Hello
Looking for information on Mary Ann Galvin born on 26 Apr 1859 to Michael Denis Galvin and Margaret Innes in Yass. Marry Ann died on 11 May 1933 in Moss Vale NSW.

Married Patrick Ryan in 1887 in Yass.  He was born in Yass in1852 to Martin Ryan and Ellen O'Neil.  He died on 1 April 1918 in Moss Vale and is buried in the Yass Cemetery. I believe he was the postmaster at Moss Vale.

My particular relative was Mary Ann Galvin junior born 19 September 1879 at Derringallen Creek NSW.  Her mother was Mary Ann Galvin senior.  No father was registered. She often went by the name of Ryan so my question is was Patrick Ryan her father or her stepfather?  Other children were born to Patrick Ryan and Mary Ann - Michael 1887, Percy J born 1890, Morgan 1891, Ruby 1896.

Any information would be grearly appreciated.

Roxy  :)

Hi
On the death certificate for Mary Ann Senior, what is written in regard to children of the deceased?

"...She often went by the name of Ryan "

Can you be specific, with instances of this. When / where...what context?

Is Mary Ann herself using both names?

Are other people using both names for her?

I think some of the information you have posted needs to be rechecked before going any further.

Neither Patrick's or Mary Ann snr's death notices mention a daughter by the name of Mary Ann.
Are you sure you have the right family for your Mary Ann Galvin junior born 19 September 1879 at Derringallen Creek NSW.?  I dont think it is the right family  ???

From a previous thread:

Hello everyone.  I am overwhelmed by the response to my mysterious John.  Thank you so much.  What I have is Birth Certificate for Joseph born Winderdeen near Collector 29 Sep 1867 Father John Hutchinson aged 36, Shepherd born England , mother Ellen Narven, aged 36.  Not married. Cert copy of birth father John, mother Ellen Narver (both aged 36). She was born in Ireland.

Joseph's marriage certificate at Dubbo NSW 1906, Father deceased, Mother Ellen Narvan still living

Joseph's death certificate in Toowoomba Queensland 1915, father John, mother Ellen Nagel

John:  1867 Collector Police Court fight with another shepherd - both in the employ of James Chisholm.
1867 Collector Police Court ill treating a cow
1878 Goulburn Police Court charged with arson the property of G.H. Hay, Paling Yards, Amercrombie River. Charges dismissed.

The family then supposedly moved to Bathurst, NSW

Joseph married Mary Ann Galvin (sometimes known as Ryan).  She was from the Yass area.  The family moved to the Bell area in Queensland about 1907 and that's where my direct family starts.
Thanks again everyone, something for me to work with.

Debra  :)
