My Grandad Stephen Arthur William Cuzner was born in Lambeth on 9th January 1889. He lived some of his Adult days at Haydons Road Wimbledon. I am trying to find out details of an accident he had working on the railway as a Plate Layer when he stepped on a live rail. He was paralysed from the waist down. I don't know what rail company he worked for but the accident happened in MITCHAM I can pin point a date within a few years because I remember when he lived near me in 1960 that he could not walk then. My older cousin remembers that he used to go down to the railway and watch him at work. By 1950 my Grandad would have been 61 years old. so I feel the accident would fall between 1955 - 1960. I have tried newspapers and other railway sites but had no luck. Would this have been entered in an accident book at work? Thanks Pam

If he was born in 1889 he would have been 66-71 by the dates above. Would he still have been working at that time?
He died in 1962

When the accident happened Grandad was still working for the railway I dont know what age they would retire I am guessing it happened nearer 1955
Thanks

He died in 1962. Can you recall how long he lived after the accident which may help to narrow it down

We dont know that but my cousin remembers him at work so thats why we think 1955 ish but before 1960 I was born in 1950 so cant remember much

Railway accident reports are held at the National Archives, you might enquire there. My cursory glance of their catalogue did not find one for the name Cuzner but it seems they are not searchable by name and accidents may not have always been investigated. See section 5.3 at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/railways/ (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/railways/).

Try this,, http://www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/

The Railway Company could well have been British Railways Southern Region.
