Title: William Wright Hannah Swain(e) - Cheshire
Post by: hollings13 on Friday 30 June 17 11:02 BST (UK)
Trying to find any information I can about my 3 x Great Grandparents - William Wright and Hannah Swain.  They were married at St Lawrence Church, Biddulph, Staffordshire in 1827.  According to 1841 and subsequent census records, William was born in Wildboarclough, Cheshire and Hannah in Gawsworth, Cheshire.  I am now trying to find out who their parents were with great difficulty! When Hannah married William, she already had an illegitimate child Thomas Swain (his surname appears as Wright on the census) born in 1823 in Gawsworth.  I can only assume that Hannah and William were both working in the Biddulph area hence them marrying there.  On 1841 census William's date of birth is 1801 and Hannah's 1796, on 1851 - the same, 1861 - 1801 and 1793. 1871 - 1801 and Hannah deceased 1864. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

you don't gave a birth year for either of them

You don't give any ages for William and Hannah to work out their birth dates - from the Cenusus, when were they born?

There is a William Wright christened 28 May 1797 at Macclesfield Forest, father Anthony Wright, mother Hannah, on familysearch. Macclesfield Forest chapel is the nearest church to Wildboarclough.

Added: Snap Pauline! It would have been helpful to know their ages!

Yes, it would have been nice to give an actual age for them it might have made my search a bit easier the census records list them from being born 1795 to 1805!

To assist those looking, the 1851 census shows William as 50, birthplace N[ot] K[nown] and Hannah as 55, birthplace Gawsworth.

Census ref: HO107/2161/352/11 (Rode Heath Cottages, North Rode)

In the household with the family is a lodger & house servant James Swaine, 18 b Macclesfield, who may be related to Hannah. (I see that he was with the Wrights, aged 8, in 1841 also - in Rode Heath, Gawsworth).

& a marriage at Gawsworth:

William is 40 in 1841, 50 in 1851, 60 in 1861, 70 in 1871 - so as consistent as it gets.
Hannah is 45 in 1841, 55 in 1851, 68 in 1861 (& dead by 1871).

It's so much easier for us to help you if this information is provided.
