I am trying to trace if Joseph Lindsell born 1783 in Bocking/Braintree is actually the Joseph Lindsell born to Daniel Lindsell in Colchester in 1788. Or if Joseph Lindsell born 1783 is in any way related to the Joseph Lindsell 1788.
Does anyone have access to any baptism records regarding them?
Much appreciated!

Where have you found references to these people? Seems it must be two separate people on the face of it - one born in 1783 in one place just cannot be a person born 5 years later somewhere else!
Depending on what evidence you have for those dates and places of course.

Joseph Lindsell baptised in Colchester 30 April 1788 St Mary-Magdalene to Daniel Lindsell
Appears on no census' or death records I can find.
Joseph Lindsell born 1788 in Bocking/Braintree appears on multiple census records.
I acknowledge it might be a shot in the dark, maybe it's just me hoping for a connection but isn't it a bit strange?

Where did you find the Colchester baptism, because I looked at St Mary Magdalene chuch records and I couldn't see it.

This is an excerpt from the Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers 1567-1970

Ah sorry, didn't think of non conformist.
Is Joseph on the 1841 and 51 census, if so whereabouts.

After a while of searching I only found census records for Joseph Lindsell born 1783, living in Braintree from 1841 to 1861.
There was one other Joseph Lindsell I could find in Essex, in the 1851 census, who was born around 1789 in Debden but he is noted to be born in Debden.

Marriage in Braintree
Joseph Linsell
Hannah Chissell
both single and by banns
3rd October, 1810
Witnesses
William Linsell
Mary Willsher

The Joseph that I found being baptised in Colchester had the following siblings:
- Daniel Linsell 1779-1829
- Sarah Linsell 1782-1875
- William Linsell 1784-1864
- Joseph Linsell 1788-????<----
- Lydia Linsell 1790-????
Incidentally, these children are same children that have been mentioned on this site before.. I found a posting about their father Daniel, in the post someone replied with info that William (1784-1864) who married with a witness being his brother Daniel.
Could this be the same person?

Although it isn't hard evidence..and maybe it's nothing at all..but in the 1841 census, Daniel Lindsell (1779-1829)'s wife, children and their families are recorded to be living in Braintree.
The total amount of Lindsells (with slight spelling changes) living in Braintree is actually 52...that's a lot of Lindsells in just one town isn't it?
Maybe it's just me hoping again...oh well

I too have been trying to figure out these Lindsells ... I think that the Joseph Lindsell born Bocking 1783 is not the one born to Daniel and Sarah in 1788.
Joseph who married Hannah Chissell or Chippell in 1810 went on to have Maria in 1815, Caroline in 1817, William in 1821 and James in 1827. We can locate that family in the 1841, 1851, 1861 and it is consistent with the age and data of birth and location being Braintree ..
If you manage to find any leads I would love to figure out who Joseph 1783 - 1864 was the child of.
