Title: Egypt Grave
Post by: chrish53 on Sunday 25 June 17 18:12 BST (UK)
Can anyone suggest how I can find the grave for someone who died in 1915 in Cairo. I have the Consular death 1911-15, and traced the negative of a photo taken in about 1924 when the family returned to the UK. I know someone who lives in Cairo who has offered to visit and take a photo for me if I can trace where the grave is.

Attached is the best copy I can make of the negative, the grave is my Great-great-Grandmother and is on the right of the picture.

There's no picture attached  :-\

Were the family Egyptian or had they just lived there for a number of years? If the later there may have been details put in the local (U.K.) paper.

I had forgotten I had asked this before! I just have traced the picture which I cannot post as every attempt to reduce it's size fails which results in me getting more frustrated. Thanks Dawn for the help my friend is now fairly sure she knows which cemetery and has offered, less her, to have a throrough look for me and to take a new photo.

My friend, kindly, did visit the cemetery and found the correct spot with the use of the photo that my grandmother took. The gravestones either side that were in the photo were there which was why she knew she had the correct spot, but my great-great-grandmother’s gravestone was gone. She checked with an official but the grave did not show on the records. Her final touch was to place a bouquet of flowers and take a photo for me. I was so touched.

That's a lovely thought by your friend, sadly the lack of headstones is becoming more common as they crumble or fall over and are removed by cemetery authorities.

Thanks for letting us know.
