Title: any information on John Ramsay

Does anyone have any information on which is the correct John Ramsay; Father of David Ramsay(1871-1955)? ??? David Ramsay was married to Agnes Myles(1865-1910). There are several John Ramsay's born around the same time and both are married to wives named Agnes Nicol (Nichols. Nicholls). One is son of John Ramsay 1797-1864 and the other is son of Gilbert Ramsay (1830-1871). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Was David born in Crail?  Have you viewed David's birth entry on Scotland's People?  It will state when and where his parents married.

From FamilySearch, it looks like they married in 1853 (proclamations on 9 April in both Kennoway and Cameron in Fife).

1881 census indicates that David's father John was born in Kennoway about 1826.  This would not fit with being the son of Gilbert born in 1830 - or have I got the dates muddled somewhere?

The occupation of father John on David's marriage should help tracing the family on earlier census'.

You give no indication of area/date of marriage & Fife is a large place?

Hi all ,

Looks like John Ramsay died 1895 , age 68  , Kingsbarns Fife.
Married to Agnes Nicoll , parents John Ramsay and Elizabeth Allison.
Son Thomas Ramsay present.

Agnes Ramsay(nee Nicoll) is with her son Thomas in the 1901 Census.

Thanks so much for all the information. Solved my problem I had a gut feeling that Gilbert Ramsay father of John was not right. David was born in Crail.

Hello David,
Just in case it is of any interest to you, a daughter of John RAMSAY and Elizabeth AL(L)ISON named Margaret b.1829 was the mother of Agnes COOK (RAMSAY) 1849-1922. Her father was Alexander COOK (I have a suspect born in Kennoway about 1829).
I have a fair amount of data on Agnes COOK (RAMSAY) and am happy to send you whatever you want.

I think I have all the information I need at the moment. It has clarified which John Ramsay was correct. I now can concentrate on his ancestors.
