I'm researching ancestors of my GG grandfather Robert Smart Turnbull b. Alnham 1828. I've seen some helpful posts from 2013 that confirmed my own findings about his siblings. I'm looking for verification of RST's father James Turnbull b.1781 Ovingham (?), RST's uncle John Turnbull b.1787(?) and their parents (possibly James and Ann but no firm leads). Thanks to anyone who can help or is researching this family. :)

You have the information for the baptisms
so you are looking for a missing link to confirm your findings
have you tried looking through wills for the Turnbulls there are a few,pre 1858 wills for Robert Turnbull
Jame's baptism is in the church records
Ovingham St Mary The Virgin
James son of James and Ann Turnbull
of Nafferton,baptised 23rd December 1781
-
James and Ann of Nafferton
Thomas,3rd October 1779
also possibly a older sibling
-
Possible Marriage;
March 1779, St Mary the Virgin, Stamfordham
James TURNBULL to Ann HALL
No actual date given on register (FreeREG)
-
Bishops transcripts states
Stamfordham parish
marriages from March 25th 1779 to March 25th 1780
James and Ann are fourth down on the list of 15 marriages performed that year
Ann may have been with child when she married

Although I worked on this Family in 2013 something doesnt add up here.
James/Elizabeth look possibly to old to be Roberts Parents.
Do you have the 1850 M/C of Robert?
Welcome to Rootschat christineabdy :)

is he in Durham Gateshead in 1841 with his wife Ann and son John aged 30
1851 a widow still in Durham

I think the only way to go with this one is to purchase the marriage certificate and then at least you do have a confirmed father for him
-
Many Thanks both for your help. Yes I agree obtaining the marriage cert is the way forward with this. I will also check the Bishops Transcripts as you mention, plus wills -which I haven't used before.
-
Please let us know the outcome of the M/C.
Trish :)

I have the 1850 marriage certificate, confirming James Turnbull is father of Robert S Turnbull. I've looked again at previous posts about difficulty finding Robert's baptism, most likely Bishops Transcripts for Rothbury lost for c.1828.
I found baptism of Robert's sister Isabella, and that's raised a new puzzle - i will start a new thread about that.

Thanks for confirming M/C details :)

Hi, I've tried sending a pm but don't know if it had worked.

Hi 4Dancestry,
Both of you need 3 posts for the pm system to be activated so it should work soon. Try again.
