I have hit a brick wall with my great grandparents. On my grandfather's birth certificate his parents are listed as Henry or Harry Wilson and Elizabeth Ward, married 11 October 1881 in Leeds Parish Church, Yorkshire, England but I cannot find any record of it in the Online Registers. They emigrated to Australia sometime after that as my grandfather was born in New South Wales in 1892. Cannot find any emigration records either - steerage passengers? Can anyone help please

Hi and welcome to Rootschat :)
Unfortunately I'm not having much luck either :-\ I have searched for a marriage of Henry/Harry/Harold Wilson without success. No luck with an immigration record either.
Do you have any more information on Henry, an occupation, date of birth etc. anything which may help us find him (I'm not familiar with the information given on Australian birth certificates).

Did your grandfather have any siblings? Either older or younger, and in the case of older, whether born in UK or Australia?

Have you considered writing direct to the Leeds Register Office and asking them to see if they can find the marriage?

You obviously have all the details regarding date, names and church. There is always the possibility that the marriage missed getting on to the GRO records. It is not unknown for this to happen. Be aware that they may make a charge for this. Do make it clear that you are in Australia, or at least I assume you are!
The other possibility is to contact the church where they married to see if it still holds the registers for 1881. If not they should be able to tell you where they are - probably in the relevant Records Office.

I have just checked the Parish Register and the only marriage on 11th October 1881 at Leeds Parish Church was Thomas Carr and Ann Roberts.

Can you tell us where you got the marriage details from? Like Jool I'm not coming up with any likely marriage for them at all.
Have you considered searching newspapers for any mention of their arrival in Australia.
What records/websites have you checked to try and find them as passengers on a ship?

Girl Guide,
It looks as though the marriage information was on their child's Australian Birth Certificate (see first post).
If they married 1881 it would be unusual if the first child was not born until 1892.
There are a couple of published trees - very little information which give a birth year of abt 1847 which would make Harry in his 30s when he married. It may be that it is a 2nd marriage or they weren't married.
Beryl,
Have you checked marriages in Australia?

Is there any previous issue listed on Harry's birth cert? As Heywood said, 11 years is a long time between marriage and a first birth.
It seems Elizabeth liked to use the name 'Mona'.
Her husband's death:
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/33324744
WILSON — On August 9. 1933, Harry, beloved husband of Mona Wilson, father of Harry, Mona,
and Ruth; father-in-law of Dora and Arthur; aged 86 years.
They are buried together with their daughter:

You will probably have to get the death certs for Harry and Elizabeth/Mona and hope that they show parents' names.
