John Walsh and Kathleen Bradley were married sometime between 1915 and 1920, don't know where the marriage took place but they settled in Napier. The first child was born in 1921.Kathleen was English , John born in the Taranaki area.

Hi Minnie,
From Kevynne's other thread about Kathleen, you will find that her middle name was Lillian.

Thanks KHP. :)
It would have been helpful to have had that information included in the current topic..........

It would have helped.
Kevynne, does John have a middle name? The more information we have, we will be able to help. :)

Conflicting info between this thread and duplicate one.
Kathleen Lillian Bradley was born in Harrogate about august 1894-95 .her father was a butcher , possible name George, however he died when Kathleen was very young. her mother and brother carried on with the shop and She had an elder sister, possibly named jean.Kathleen was christened and confirmed in the catholic church in Harrogate Leeds and all the records were lost in a fire. Kathleen immigrated to new Zealand , probably prior to 1920 as she married here and her first child was born in 1921.
Could anybody help to find this Bradley family in Harrogate please.

Hi Kevynne
I really think you need to get more info from the friend you are helping as nothing ties up with records in England
The marriage cert is a good starting point

Yes, I think so .Problem is elderly people don't remember things so well. I will see what i can do. Thanks for your help and lookups.

One of the questions asked at the time of a BIRTH registration (during the period in which you are interested) was:
Parents-
"When and where married"
If ordering, choose a printout as these are cheaper, may contain more information than a certificate and can be e-mailed.

Thank you Minnihaha for the information about Kathleen and Johns burials in Hastings.

On the NZ ER's I can see a Kathleen Walsh (married) living on Renata Street in Hastings, but no sign of John?
-
If John did not have another Christian name, there are two possible birth registrations for him.......
1887/17927 Walsh John Kate John
1888/17486 Walsh John Bridget Michael
Are there any familiar names here?
[Maybe a Rootschatter can find a place of birth for the above?]
Minniehaha.
-
On the Er's for 1928, Hawke's Bay, living in 408 St Aubyn Street, Hastings are John Walsh and Mary Katherine Walsh.
Added:
Ignore that, marriage in 1913 to Mary Catherine Maggin of John Walsh.
-
1887/17927 Walsh John
Two listed in the first quarter, one in Christchurch the other in Dunedin.
1888/17486 Walsh John
Third quarter, Wellington,
These are the Registration Places.
No parents names mentioned.

If they are not living together on the ER's, then perhaps they did not marry?
But she is recorded as beloved wife from that headstone.
-
The will is online at family search. Property to husband and money to children.
No middle name used for Kathleen or John Walsh.
-
She was shown as 65 on her headstone when she died in 1956 so birthyear 1890/1891 - see other thread
-
See reply #9......
I think the only way forward is to purchase a birth printout in respect of one or more of the children born to Kathleen & John. The accuracy of the stated place and date of marriage can then be established.

Anyone with ancestry can you check if Kathleen and John's details in rolls, address in the 1950s is 1006 Glenhope street Hastings. (Info from will)
-
Kathleen's last address on E/R's for 1954 was Renata Street, along with Jack who was at Renata Road, as a labourer. They were at that address in the 1946/1949 E/R.
Reply#11 Chempat couldn't see John in 1949, probably because he was down as Jack.
Perhaps we need to wait to hear back from the Poster with more information.

I am aware that it is the date of the marriage that is under discussion but in failing to find that so far, perhaps an attempt should be made to discover more about John?
These births are 'possibles' if he had another Christian name.....
1887/12242 Walsh John James Marian Timothy John
1888/135 Walsh John Edmund Catherine James Henry
1888/7069 Walsh Richard John Catherine John
1888/13627 Walsh William John Margaret Jane William
1888/13161 Walsh Thomas Charles John Eliza Thomas
Could someone please check the place of registration.
Minniehaha.

1887/12242 Walsh
Dunedin
1888/135 Walsh John Edmund
Thames
1888/7069 Walsh Richard John
Auckland
1888/13627 Walsh William John
Stratford
1888/13161 Walsh Thomas Charles John
Could be Auckland, under Thomas Charles J Walsh

I saw the Renata Street and Renata Road addresses and so took them as different physical locations - I did allow for John being Jack but not for Road being Street. There are xxxx street and xxxx road where I live, they are different places.
-
Thanks KHP for this information.
Quote from first post........
"John born in the Taranaki area."
Mmmm, so maybe the John we are looking for is this one?
1888/13627 Walsh William John
Stratford

I think this may be the marriage for William John Walsh......
1915/6501 Ruby Bertha Volzke William John Walsh
The names of both Ruby Bertha Volzke & William John Walsh appear in Taranaki newspapers.
However not sure that it takes us anywhere. ? ?
Since added: Above can be probably be ruled out**......
1968/36349 Walsh Ruby Bertha 70Y
Probated will indicates that she was a widow living in Stratford.

**And this settles it, back to square one....

For those wondering about the ER's and street addresses - they are not done by street but by area and then alphabetically, so all with surname Walsh in the same area are listed, not by household.
Jack and Kathleen are both listed in Whakatu in 1928, he as labourer, she as married.
-
Yes realise the issue with electoral rolls, more interested to see if a middle name was used. The should be a Walsh at last address given in will hopefully.

I am wondering if they were married outside of NZ .... WW1 was on.

Yes KHP, I found that too, and have just included it in my post. Definitely the road to nowhere! ;D

Jack and Kathleen are both listed in Whakatu in 1928, he as labourer, she as married.
Jack (labourer) and Kathleen (married) WALSH appear on the Waipawa (Hawke's Bay) e/roll, residing at Whakatu also in 1925. Prior to that, not able to find them.
Note: The 1922 and 1925 e/rolls are only able to be browsed (online - via ancestry.com) - and you really need to know a rather precise area of where are person was living, otherwise it's an enormously time-consuming exercise.

This is the address of the Freehold Property (parcel of land) that apparently Kathleen owned.
I stand to be corrected.
