Title: Uniform Query

This photo belonged to my great uncle Alexander (Sandy) Stephen who lived in Fraserburgh from 1905 to 1980s. I'm trying to work out who the gentleman in the photo is. It's attached to professional looking card although it doesn't have any photographer/studio details. I'm hoping he's from Fraserburgh but can't be certain.
Does anybody recognise the uniform he's wearing? I don't think it's military although it does have a distinct hat badge.

Welcome to Rootschat bainbm.

My husband thinks it might be a merchant navy uniform. The different shipping lines had their own uniforms/hat badge.

I can't quite make out the badge. Can you describe it or post a close up of it?

Merchant Navy sounds positive as I know that Sandy was in the Merchant Navy.

Can I suggest you show this picture on http://www.shipsnostalgia.com

There is a forum on there for maritime family history research, and there are a lot of former sailors there, me included, who have detailed knowledge of various company uniforms. I have to say though, that it's not one I recognise.
