Hi. I am looking for any further information anyone can help me with in a branch of my family tree. My Great-great-great grandmother was Sarah Bradbury, born 1836 in Ashton-under-lyne. On the 1851 census she is listed as living at Grosvenor Street, Dukinfield, Ashton-under-lyne as a neice of Alfred and Ann Birck/Birch with who I think could be her sister Ann (born 1833). I cannot find any record of Sarah on the 1841 census so I'm struggling to get any further back in her branch of the family. I've found lots of information about what happened to her in her life after 1851 but nothing before. Any help or guidance would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance. Dawn

Did Sarah marry if so who did she name as her father on the marriage
-
It states on the 1851 Census both Sarah & Ann were born Stalybridge, what does it say on the later census?
-
I see you have had another post for Harriet Ann Bradbury where there have been suggestions as to her background - possibly illegitimate dtr of Sarah is that the same person.

rosie 99 - Hi, yes this is the same Sarah Bradbury. I've had some technical issues with this site and have had trouble replying to messages. Sarah did marry a David Davies. Their marriage certificate states her father was a George Bradbury who was a spinner.
Ellenmai - later census records show birthplace as Ashton but the boundaries between Ashton, Dukinfield and Stalybridge seem to shift frequently in past years so it could reasonably be any of those.
Thanks you to everyone for your help :D

heatherjulie - I had seen that record but initially ruled it out as the birth and christening years were 4 years apart but I think it may be worth some further exploration. Thank you for reminding me of it :)

Hi Dawn
Is the marriage of Sarah to David Davies the one in June qtr 1871 :-\ Could you please tell us where you have Sarah in prior census and in 1881 as it will help distinguish her from the others of the same name. :)

Are you still having problems with replying to that post as I could ask the moderators for their help :)

Sarah Bradbury
Christening 12 Jan 1840
St. Michael's, Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, England
Father's Name: George Bradbury
Mother's Name: Betty
They also appear to have had a son Squire bn 1846 (March qtr) bapt 1848
(There is another Squire Bradbury bn Sept qtr 1847 just to confuse ;D I can see this one on census with father John)

Thank you so much for your help on this everyone. I've just found details of an 1832 marriage between George Bradbury and Betty Tonge - Tonge ties into one of the census records for Sarah later in life so she could have been staying with family, perhaps after her parents passed. There is a record of a Betty Bradbury passing away in 1848 when Sarah would have only been 12 so it is possible. Thanks again!! :D

I'm a little unsure about Squire Bradbury. I can find a record of him but his mother is named as Martha Shoesmith. This doesn't tie in with the Betty that may be Sarah's mother.
-
I can see transcripts giving both names for the same baptism ::)
Martha would make more sense as a Martha Shoesmith married a George Bradbury Dec qtr 1843. GRO index has 2 birth registrations for a Squire mmn Shoesmith . The other Squire that I can see elsewhere with father John might not have had his birth registered.

Heather As I understand it.
Charles Bradbury married Jane Royale Man Cathedral 1873
A baby they had died very early.
Charles died in 1882 buried Ardwick Cemetary.
Jane Bradbury has a child with William Alford(1889)
The child is registered as Annie Phillips Bradbury.
In the 1891 Census Annie is living with James and Ellen Bradbury.(Looking After Her)
Jane & Annie Bradbury take the name Alford.
Jane dies in 1927 and is buried with her late husband Charles in the Family Vault at Ardwick Cemetery. Her death certificate is in the name Jane Louisa Bradbury.
Heather How and are you related to the Bradburys?
-
I am not related to the Bradbury family-just had a few minutes to spare.
Heather

James Bradbury Of Beswick
Married Margaret Bridge in 1837 - father given as John Bradbury butcher
The GRO index confirms that the mother of his children was Bridge
On one census he gives his birth place as Knutsford
He changes from Engine fitter to Beerseller but seems to have the same address.
I believe he is the son of John (Whittaker) Bradbury, butcher of Knutsford born 1809
