Hi, (First time asking a question so hope this is all ok) I am aware that relatives of mine who's father was in the British Military in India were living at this Asylum. I am trying to discover if there are any lists of pupils for around 1871-1884 for the asylum and if there is any background to why children went here and what life was like there. I am also told their mother died whilst they were India and probably the reason why they were sent to the Asylum but I cannot find any death records and would love to link it all up to finally discover the history of their time in India. Thanks

Hi InezK
Welcome to Rootschat ;D
They weren't asylums in the mental health sense of the word but boarding schools
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Military_Asylums
A lot of military families sent their children to boarding school, either back here in England or abroad.
The India Office at the British Library in London St Pancras has some records, it might be worthwhile contacting them to find out if they have what you seek.
