Would anyone be able to tell me if you can still apply for certificates by application form through
the post other than on line. Thank you.
-
I always apply by post

Thank you for replying. Could you tell me how to get an application form. I think I must be behind
the times, it seemed a lot easier some while ago!!

I ring the GRO office and ask them to send whichever form I require. You could of course write to them or use their online site. I'm a pen and paper person , not very good with online. :D

You can download a Birth Certificate application form at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/birth-certificate-application-form
Death Certificate https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/death-certificate-application-form
Marriage Certificate https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/marriage-certificate-application-form

Thank you Stan, I appreciate your help. I think that's the way forward for me.

Hi deebee
Just out of curiousity, why do you want to apply by letter rather than making a phone call to the GRO?
-
Hi, It has been a long time since I last sent away for a certificate, then I just downloaded a form, filled it in and sent it to the gro with a cheque. I've looked on their site recently and thought that you could only apply on line, which I would rather not do. So I'm pleased to find out that you can still apply by post.

I've obtained a lot of certificates from local register offices rather than the GRO, and have usually requested them by letter. You can include all the information you have in a letter (unlike a form), so there is a better chance of getting the right certificate. It's always worked out quicker than the GRO too.
