Title: Marriage for Catherine Mackie
Post by: Gmitch47 on Wednesday 26 April 17 06:58 BST (UK)
Hi everyone,
I am trying to access information on a Catherine Mackie who married Alfred Chapman in the Perth district of Western Australia in 1920 I have it coming up on the BMD index for Western Australia is there anyway I can find out what it says on the marriage certificate. I live in Scotland and it is not like Scotlands People access to BMD's
I think Catherine emigrated to Freemantle in 1912 on the ship "AJANA" in 1914 she is on her brothers enlistment in the Australian Imperial Force as his next of kin living at 241 William Street Perth WA
There is also a death for Catherine Mackie in 1942 but again I can't access any info
Your help would be much appreciated

Regards

You will need to purchase the certificate to access any information.
http://www.bdm.dotag.wa.gov.au/W/wa_registry_indexes.aspx?uid=9528-1438-1230-2099

It may help if you could give her full name.

So you aren't sure if your Catherine married in 1920?

The death of a Mrs Catherine Teresa MACKIE in 1942 is for the wife of a doctor, so not your person of interest.

Hi Cando
Thank you very much for your replies
The Catherine I'm searching for had a middle name Imrie hence the Catherine I Mackie on the index I seen the death for a Alfred W Chapman who died 1936 not sure if this is the husband

What was the brother's name? (the one who fought in war with her as NOK)
I'm not seeing it ...

Do you have his marriage and death notices etc?  If not perhaps they will give a hint about what happened to Catherine.

If that's the correct Andrew MACKIE (married to Norah) then here is a marriage of a son in 1951
http://www.outbackfamilyhistory.com.au/records/record.php?record_id=375

And the birth of daughter to the couple http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article49080054

There were also some sad death and memorial notices for children of Andrew and Norah MACKIE

This is why I was trying to confirm the tie between Catherine and Andrew
The facts you are giving me are fantastic

And some stories about the accident - very sad  http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article46155856 http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article46182969 http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/78253452

And his WW2 service

http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/Veteran.aspx?serviceId=R&veteranId=867509

Ros

adding : his divorce from Merlyn http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article51757135 And http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article76016342 ! (so awful)
and his burial http://www2.mcb.wa.gov.au/NameSearch/details.php?id=KB00080144

And his marriage was in Victoria so can be found here in 1940 https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/indexsearch.doj

It's so very sad to think that at the age of 23 he had served in the Air force and the army, had married and had a son then a heart-breaking divorce.

Hi Ros,
That's incredible the amount of information you have given me
I have noticed on a few it said they were Roman Catholic as far as I know the Mackie family from Scotland were Protestant so I don' know what's happened down the line

I can't thank you enough for the information
The only thing I need to try and access is Catherine Imrie Mackie's wedding to see if it names her mother and father to confirm the relationship with Andrew Mackie and everything else would fall into place

Yes George I was hoping we'd find something by following Andrew but no luck.  West Australian marriage certs are pretty pricey so hoping to find another way.

Who were her parents and where/when was she born?

Hi Ros
Catherine Imrie Mackie was b. 21/12/1895 in Kingsbarns, Fife Scotland
Her father was John Mackie her mother was Catherine Peebles now Catherine Peebles's mother was called Catherine Imrie hence the middle name
Andrew Mackie was b. 05/07/1892 in Kingsbarns, Fife, Scotland same mother and father as Catherine
On Andrew's enlistment record it states he was b. 05/07/1893 one year out which is neither here nor there
I've tried searching the Australian records and as you say it's quite pricey not like Scotlands People where you buy credits, also you have to apply in writing for to access the record in Australia by mail.

Well it's different in each state George.  Most are cheaper, some are available online for immediate download and some you can obtain transcripts etc.   And it looks as if she may have moved interstate so looking further afield now ...

I'm sorry George I haven't found anything.   I was hoping with such a distinctive middle name that we would find her.   I've looked for Catherine/Katherine/Kate Mackie/Chapman with one or other of the parents without finding anything.

If only she had divorced in NSW I could have photographed the divorce file which should have the marriage cert and other info.  I'm not sure how to access divorces in W.A.   Here's the W.A. state records office web site
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01k0u/ and down the page it mentions that some divorces are held on microfiche and others are available at Supreme Court.

Others will be along with some good ideas.

Hi Ros,
I thank you very much for all the help you have given
Also a big thanks to " Cando " and " Cupoflife " for their help as well
I have downloaded the Uncertfied copy of birth/death/marriage form and hope to post to Australia I have the address on the form where to send it.
Hopefully it will name Catherine's parents
Thanks again for your time

George
