Hello. I'm trying to trace my Mackay family tree and they were from the island and some moved to Tongue.
So far I've traced some of the younger generation but can anyone help at all?
My search is slowing down now without dates I'm clutching at straws.
Thankyou :)

Hi there and welcome to RootsChat :)
Why don't you add some names and dates of what you have so that people can see if they can help. Just make sure you don't include any details on living people in order to protect their privacy online.

Hi Monica.
My grandfather was Donald Mackay who had three sisters - Ina Macleod (croft in Coldbackie) Jessie Ann Mackay (Coldbackie post office) and Agnes Lobban.
I would love for as much information and pictures about the island and its descendants as possible.

Vayla, have you made general google searches on info for the island. Links like this one here www.skerray.com/island-roan/eilean-nan-roan

That's the first place I started then followed on to Google and got in touch via social media with long lost relatives.
Unfortunately not a great deal has been documented, or perhaps has but has been lost over time.

Vayla: You could try visiting Christine Stokes's site which has been moved to:
http://cosuthfamhistory.blogspot.ca/2016/03/blog-post.html
There is a link on it that leads to Burial Sites, including Skerry.
Of course you are exploring "Mackay Country" where there are hosts of Mackays with identical names, but you might be lucky and be able to identify your ancestors. There is also a list of the last people to inhabit the island - all Mackays.
