A second cousin of mine, Phil(l)ip Finn died aged 17 in a car accident on Sept 12, 1959 in Groper Creek Road, Home Hill, Qld. The post mortem was held on Sept 13 (noted on death cert). He was subsequently buried in the Home Hill General Cemetery.
I have searched Trove and done about a dozen variation searches on Google for news items to no avail. There may be no newspaper report but if anyone has some spare time over this Easter weekend to take a look or suggest another avenue, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.
Happy Easter to those who celebrate x

I was recently searching for an event that occurred in Brisbane in 1957. It turned out that the relevant newspaper (it was the Telegraph) was not as yet digitised by the National Library. I visited the library personally and checked the microform version and found the article that way. It helped I knew the exact date of the event because there is obviously no index and you just have to search page by page.

Thanks for that, hsfam. Hopefully, they'll come online soon. Glad you found your article.

You can check the years of coverage at

None of the Qld newspapers have been digitised post c1954.
You could use the Ask a Librarian service

HI,
The Home Hill Observer from that date period would probably have carried some information and maybe the Burdekin Shire Council Library hold these newspapers and a Librarian might have a look for you.

The State Library of Queensland hold films of many past Queensland Newspapers with a list held in a folder at the desk on level 3 so if you used the 'Ask a Librarian' as suggested by Cando to see if they at least held the Home Hill Observer for 1959 then then we could go from there if it does.
If the SLQ does hold the newspaper it would be great if the Librarians could search and send you details that you are after but for some reason they couldn't I could check for you in 6 weeks or so when I get back to Brisbane from Cairns.
Other newspapers probably had articles relating to the car accident including the Townsville Bulletin and Ayr Advocate.

Thanks, Cando and Gerry, very much appreciated. I have submitted the request through Ask A Librarian, as suggested, and I'll wait to see the outcome. Thanks again.

Following your terrific advice, I used the Ask a Librarian service on Good Friday and while the website says a 10 day timeline, I expected it to be longer due to the Easter holiday. Imagine my surprise when at noon today, an email popped into my box with an attachment of 2 very brief newspaper reports. Very impressed with their service and delivery.
Thanks again.
