Title: Please can someone mend this torn photo of Elizabeth Russell
Post by: treslade on Friday 14 April 17 02:11 BST (UK)
This is a photo of Elizabeth Russell born in Poplar, January 1909, it is the only photo we have of her, the photograph has been loved but handled too much over the years, I would be very grateful if anyone can 'repair the tear' as the tear goes through Elizabeth and distorts the young girl's arm, maybe a bit of colour? but not the colour is not as important as the tear, my computer skills are very basic, and this puts me out of my depth. Some of the restoration work on here, is truly fantastic, and a big thank - to everyone - on this site who give their free time to help total strangers.

Dear loord74 and ymfoster (Yvonne)

Thank you so much for the time you have given to help me, the results are lovely and so much nicer than the original photo, I know so little about how to restore photos, I am not sure about 'not enough pixels' but I am going to look it up, thank you once again.

Dear Sandra ...welcome to roots chat ...Pixels mean Resolution per inch ..it was 200 Pixels/inch which is not enough to gain best results,Its recommended to be re-scanned at 300 Pixels/inch at least .

japeflakes,
Thank you for the photo, it is kind of you, it looks great, the tear is gone, and the creases and that was all I was hoping for, everything else is a bonus  brilliant,

loord74,
I still don't really understand but thank you for trying to explain pixels to me, when the first youngish person comes to see me, it is going to be my first question, and they can explain it ( slowly in simple terms) to me. : )

Thank everyone so much,
Sandra

I've changed the background on my version, I didn't like the big post behind them, hope you don't mind.

Dear Pat
Thank you for your work, and for the time you have given to do it, they are lovely, and it is interesting to see just the people, without a background.

You're very welcome Sandra,  ;D
when you go to scan a photo a box will appear for your choices & 'resolution' is the one for setting pixel numbers,

Thank you Yvonne,
I didn't scan it, but I will get it rescanned and look at the difference the pixels make, the only modern thing I had when I was growing up was a slide rule........and I can't really do much with my mobile phone either, the older I get, the less I absorb, so I think you are all very clever on lots of different levels.

I started quite a few years ago on my family history & can just use what I need on computers, I'm not too technical & also find it harder to absorb the new gadgets, even our mobile phone which we only use for emergencies.  ;)

I think our brains have too much on them as we get older & are in overload.  ;D

Yvonne... you are far too modest ;D.... your ability to restore photographs and yet keep them true to the original is a lot more 'technical' than the uninitiated realise. Yours and Carol's (Teetotal) original type restores on Rootschat pages are among my personal favourites.

Thanks for the lovely compliments HandyPandy,  ;D
I mainly use the clone tool & not many special effects, just an eye for detail & not much brainpower needed.  ;)  :)

 Yvonne,

I agree, you have a good eye and your detail work is 1st class.
