Hello
Would appreciate an estimated date for the attached picture taken by John Phillips in Belfast, Co. Antrim, supposedly of my great great grandmother Jane McCracken Crockett. I have my suspicions as she died in 1871 age 45.
Information on John Phillips with thanks to Aghadowey and Scotmum from this thread : http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=768123.0 (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=768123.0)
Many thanks

It's quite possible this is 1860's but we need to see the back.

Thanks Jim
Unfortunately I only have a scanned copy.

Just a small detail but the lettering is typical 1860's. Her dress style is quite plain another 1860's feature but as an older woman may have dressed like this into the 1870's.
She looks well into her 60's & possibly into her 70's. The children both boys look 3 & 6.
The youngest is wearing a Bolero jacket which was very popular for boys in the 60's.
Do these details give any clues ?

Many thanks for the pointers Jim. It almost certainly rules out the possibility that the woman is Jane McCracken.
I too had thought that the woman in the pciture was into her late 60's or early 70's whereas Jane died aged 45.
The source also stated that the children were her grandchildren but Jane's grandchildren were all born after she died. Her husband remarried the year after she died in 1872. Her children would have ranged in age from 2 to 16 at the time of her death.
Once again, many thanks.

Wonder if this could be a copy of an earlier photo printed at a later date? We've one in our house taken before a relative went to Australia and the photographer/card stock didn't come into existence until quite a bit later.
