Hi all,
New to the board but very excited at the prospects. I am Looking for help with my Mother's side of the family the Cheyne's from Paisley. I have my Great Grandparents wedding cert.
Thomas Cheyne and Jeannie Mackrel were married on Dec 27 1902, gg grandparents were Thomas Cheyne and Sarah McAuley.
I have Thomas and Sarah wedding cert. and they were married Dec 31st 1873. Thomas was 48 and Sarah 36. Spelling on her last name was Macauley. GGG grandparents were William Cheyne and Elizabeth Cheyne nee Marshall?? hard to read. That's where Im stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

You are allowed to post a small section of the certificate, to enable others to try and assist with reading the surname.
Was the 1873 marriage a 2nd one for either/both (given their ages at time)?
Have you looked for the respective couples in Census records yet?

Hi Scotmum.
Thanks for the tip. I have not checked census records. I thought the same thing about it possibly being a second marriage.
Ill try to figure out how to add the snipit of the name. Not totally computer savy but im getting better all the time haha.
Thanks for you answer again. Much appreciated!

Sarah MacAuley parents were Daniel McAuley and Sarah McAdam.

Hi keyboard86
Sarah MacAuley parents were Daniel McAuley and Sarah McAdam.
Maybe someone could advise, but on the 1891 census Sarah Cheyne has changed her forename to Isabella aged 54 b Johnstone
Keyboard86
EDIT and back to Sarah aged 60 b Johnstone in 1901 census?
-
On the 1861 census Sarah macAuley parents were Daniel and isabella mcaluy. Think it is coincedence?

There was a William Cheyne to Elisabeth Marshall marriage in Peterhead Parish in 1805.
Perhaps your Thomas was one of their youngest children.

Scotmum,
Thank you so much!...where did you find that info? any ideas on how to back from there? sorry for late reply I didn't realize there was a page 2 lol.

Hi again, I am out of my comfort zone/area when dealing with Scottish ancestry, to help out I can only provide census returns which hopefully will assist!
Are you/we happy that the returns I have already posted are in fact the correct family, if this is the case then a couple of questions need to be verified eg on the 1861 census Thomas is shown as "Son in Law" but in 1871 he is a Widower with Sarah shown as single and acting as a servant for him, is William with the family in 1871 a brother?
Was Thomas a widower when he married Sarah?
