Hi,
I'm looking for the baptism of Annie FREEMAN who was buried on 7 Nov 1918 at St Luke's, aged 22 months, so born around Jan 1917. I have been unable to find her birth registration, so can't work out who her parents are. The address on her burial record is 6 Long Row New Sharlston, where other members of the FREEMANs in my family lived.
If anyone has access to the baptism records, I would be very grateful if you could look to see if she was baptised at St Luke's, the date and who her parents were.
Thank you very much in advance.

Hi emelton,
Thank you for the death registration. I hope someone might be able to help me with the baptism.
Thank you in advance.

The death certificate may name one or both of her parents

Hi rosie99,
Thank you for the suggestion. I could try that if we manage to get cheaper access to BMD certificates!
If anyone is thinking of visiting the Wakefield Archives, I'd appreciate any details about the baptism if you are able to look. Thank you.

Using the new GRO facility, there is a birth registration for Muriel ANNIE Freeman - Wakefield - December quarter 1916 - mother's maiden name is Robertshaw.
From FreeBMD, a possible marriage - December quarter 1915 - Dewsbury Registration District = Wilmot Freeman and Ada Robertshaw.

PDF Pilot Phase 3
We are trialling a service from 16 March to provide PDF copies of our non-digitised records. Records will not be immediately viewable, but emailed as a PDF.
Applications for each PDF cost £8, must be made online and include a GRO index reference.
England and Wales records which are available as PDF's in pilot 3 include:
Births: 1935-2006
Deaths: 1958-2006
Marriages: 1837-2010
Note: A PDF is not a certificate and has no value for services where a certificate is required e.g. a Passport or Driving Licence application, or Notice of Marriage
Pilot phase 3 closes at 4pm on 12 April or when 40,000 PDF's have been ordered, whichever is sooner. Analysis of the pilot will then follow.

Another child - Harold Freeman - Wakefield Registration District - 1920 with mmn = Robertshaw.
BUT that's not the family I'm afraid - they're all alive in 1939 :-X Sorry :'(
-
Also buried on the same day, same address and in the same grave as Annie - Harold Freeman aged 24.
Added: 9 January 1926, aged 71 years - Jane Freeman of 6 Long Row, New Sharlston - so same address and same grave number.
There is a baptism at St Luke of Harold Freeman, son of John William (Miner) and Jane Freeman of New Sharlston on 14 November 1894, born 19 October 1894.
-
The Harold Freeman born 1894 has a mmn of Burnell
Marriage
John William Freeman/Jane Burnell Jun 1873 Wakefield 9c 77
Howsever in the 1901 Census John and Jane give year of birth as 1854 which would mean that wen Annie was born in 1917 Jane would have been 63. Therefore Annie is probably her granddaughter.

1911 has the address as 6 Long Row, Sharlston, so we've got the right family now!!

There is a birth record for Muriel Annie Freeman born 1916 Q4 Wakefield, Mother's maiden name Robertshaw. My Great Grandmother was born 16 Long Row Sharlston and I had a job finding her record until I tried Wakefield district on the indexes. When the birth Certificate came through it stated in the district of Sandal Yorkshire, all very confusing. ???
-
Sorry BumbleB I have just spotted you had already found that birth :-X
-
There is a birth ref for an unnamed female surname Freeman which fits with a possible birth in Jan 1917
Freeman Female Mar 1917 Ecclesall B 9c 702 mmn Freeman
I know it's not in the Wakefield area but it's the only one I can find.

So I wonder if Annie is that child, and possibly the daughter of Sarah A :-\ The death certificate would confirm or deny my theory.
-
I was thinking that if she was illegitimate the mother may have gone away from home to give birth.

Sarah Ann Freeman married on 17 Apr 1911 at St Luke, Sharlston to Charles Chaplin Kirby, so is unlikely to be the mother of a Freeman child c1917.
Emma Freeman of 6 Long Row died aged 14 and was buried at St Luke, Sharlston on 14 June 1916.
-
Can anyone spot Faith - she appears in 1881 aged 5 months, and aged 10 in 1891?
Thomas marries in 1902 and James W in 1906. Walter doesn't marry until 1919. I've also lost Charles - 4 in 1891 and Joseph E - 1 in 1891 completely. Plus I'm one child down on the 16 born to the couple.
Thomas - 1874 marries 1902
John Henry - 1875 - 1893
Mary E - 1879 - 1915
Faith - 1881 -
James W - 1883 marries 1906
Sarah A - 1885 marries 1911
Charles - 1886 -
Esther - 1888 - 1895
Joseph E - 1890 -
Levi - 1892 - 1893
Walter - 1893 marries 1919
Harold - 1894 - 1918
Alice - 1896 - 1896
Samuel - 1898 - 1949
Emma - 1902 - 1916
-
Marriage
George Henry Wager/Faith Freeman Jun 1900 Wakefield 9c 75.
In the 1901 Census Faith gives her pob as Streethouse which is next door to New Sharlston and Warmfield.

Many thanks. But we're still no nearer to finding Annie's parents - Thomas or James W :-\
-
Charles and Joseph are both at a school for the deaf in Doncaster in 1901. In 1911 Joseph is back with the family and Charles and wife Polly are lodging with a family called Lingard in New Sharlston

So another candidate for Annie's parents :)

Faith Wager died aged 29, Dec qtr 1909 Wakefield.
So by 1911 the Freemans had lost the following children:
John Henry in 1893
Levi in 1893
Esther in 1895
Alice in 1896
Faith in 1909
Mary Elizabeth in 1915
Amended
Plus, presumably, the mystery child whose name we don't know.
-
Mary Elizabeth doesn't die until 1915.
Alice - 1896 - 1896
-
Many thanks. But we're still no nearer to finding Annie's parents - Thomas or James W :-\
James William I think can be ruled out. He and his wife Edith (nee Musgrave) had a daughter Edith Freeman mmn Musgrave registered Mar qtr 1917 - so could not also have had Annie at around the same time. There is no indication that Edith had a twin.
Edith Freeman died aged 10 months and was buried at St Luke, Sharlston on 12 Jan 1918 - abode 42 Long Row, Sharlston.
-
Mary Elizabeth doesn't die until 1915.
Alice - 1896 - 1896
Sorry. Yes of course.
-
So, are we left with Thomas :-\
-
So, are we left with Thomas :-\
It doesn't look as though Thomas and Emma (nee Blissett) had further children after they lost two daughters, Ethel aged 5 and Alice aged 1, in 1908.
They don't seem to have moved away - their son Leslie Maurice was still residing in Sharlston when he married in 1933, and Thomas died & was buried there in 1945 aged 74.
There are some Freeman/Blissett births in Kettering, but they are likely to be connected with a Freeman/Blissett marriage in Kettering in 1905.
-
Thank you to everyone for their suggestions - I'm looking into this further and will report back later.

Muriel Annie Freeman born 1916 Q4 Wakefield, was my Auntie and her mother was Ada Freeman (nee Robertshaw), she was born in 1900 at Gomersall. Muriel's father was Wilmot Freeman (my Grandfather). I have researched Wilmot's family tree (father to father).
