I wonder if anyone could look up a couple of Bury St Edmunds burials that I found on the National Burial Index.
The place of burial for both is just "CEMETERY" - Don't know if that makes it a municipal cemetery, rather than a church graveyard.
Robert William Baker, buried 25 Jan 1890, age 47
and
Elizabeth Baker, buried 27 Sep 1887, age 43
I'm hoping they are husband (an innkeeper) and wife, who both died in Ipswich, so it's the residence and occupation that I need to see, which is what isn't transcribed on the NBI.
Many thanks

Hi
There is a probate record (Will)) for Robert William Baker ~ died 22 Jan. 1890 ~ he was an innkeeper, proved by Robert William Baker, innkeepers assistant of 73 Cemetery Road, Ipswich, the son.

Thanks Claire.
I'd already got that, and that is him. Unfortunately but not unsurprisingly there isn't a probate record for Elizabeth, so I've not been able to confirm the 1887 death is her.
Findmypast says the NBI entries were transcribed by Suffolk FHS so I'm hoping someone might be able to check the relevant registers some time.
I know I could buy the certificates, but as a 1st cousin 5x removed, Elizabeth (née Alsop) is a little too distantly related to justify the certificates.

In the 1881 census,
Robert William Baker. 37, Publican. 12 / 13 Theatre Tavn, Tacket Street, Ipswich St Stephen.
Elizabeth Baker, Wife, 36. 12 / 13 Theatre Tavn, Tacket Street, Ipswich St Stephen.

Thanks, solidrock.
Sorry, everyone, I obviously wasn't clear what I was asking for.
I've got my Robert William & Elizabeth Baker on the censuses and their bmds on the GRO indexes. The probate entry for Robert confirms it's the right person. I have their descendants censuses/bmds/1939 register too.
There is a burial in Bury St Edmunds for a Robert William Baker on the NBI*, 25 Jan 1890, which looks likely to be him.
There is a death of an Elizabeth Baker Q3 1887, Ipswich Registration District and what may be a corresponding burial on the NBI in Bury St Edmunds 27 Sep 1887.
I am trying to confirm that that burial is my Elizabeth, so I can kill her off.
The graves are not on findagrave.com nor on gravestonephotos.com, nor on deceasedonline.com
If someone is going to a branch of the Suffolk Records Office (probably the Bury St Edmunds RO), I would be grateful if you could see if you can find these entries in a burial register and let me know the Abode and Occupation shown. If it's a municipal cemetery, the register may also show grave numbers, which would also be useful, as if they're in the same grave, that would be conclusive they were man and wife.
If I can tie them in with each other through abode, occupation or grave number, I can then draw a line under that branch.
* NBI = National Burial Index, a series of transcriptions of burial registers made by family history societies across the country. It is now hosted on findmypast.

Just posting to remind that there wouldn't normally be an occupation in a burial record, of course
-
Thanks Claire - that's really useful. Definitely makes the entry for Elizabeth on the GRO fit with her husband.
Intriguing that they should be buried in Bury St Edmunds, having lived most of their lives in Ipswich.

Parish registers, no. But I suspect this isn't a church cemetery.
I haven't seen Bury St Edmunds municipal cemetery registers, but the Lancashire ones I've ploughed my way through include occupation.

I'm hoping to look around the cemetery in Bury St Edmunds tomorrow, we happen to be there for the day and my x3 great grandparents are also listed as being in a 'cemetery'.
I have emailed the relevant department at the council for details, but they haven't as yet got back to me.
I will keep a look out for yours whilst I'm there, but am guessing it's fairly large!
-
That is very kind of you. Thank you.
But, yes, I imagine it's fairly big!
-
Just a quick update to say, sorry no luck on either yours or mine......needle in a haystack! I have had no reply from St Edmundsbury Borough council I emailed just over a week ago either, but I shall sit tight a bit longer before I pester them further...

Ah well ...
Thanks so much for looking.
