I have been told the boys in this photo are my husband's great uncles, Arthur & Bernard Burroughs, however I don't think that is possible. Arthur & Bernard were 7 & 3 respectively when they emigrated to Canada in 1906. They are older than that in this photo.
What I could find about the photographer (with help from other people on Rootschat), it seems he worked in the late 1880s, which doesn't jive. ???
I'm hoping dating the photo may help solve this puzzle. Many thanks! :)

My guess would be 1890s but Jim will have a better idea.

Typical late 1880's-early 1890's back.
I'm not convinced they are brothers, more likely father & son.
Quite a contrast in clothing. The seated chap is dressed in rough workman's clothes & his old fashioned frock coat has seen better days.
The young man is dressed in a business style, a morning coat & winged collar being typical for a "white collar" worker.

Nice one Jim...I thought it could be late 1880s into the 90s too...I agree more likely to be father and son.

Thank you Jim & Carol.
I hadn't considered that they weren't brothers, but now that you say that, I agree. The date agrees with what I was able to find on the photographer.
So now to talk to hubby's uncle with this new info & see what he might know.
Thanks for your help

The young chap looks 18-20 so I would look for a lad born 1870 +/- 5.
