Hi
Could anybody please let me have the details of Patrick and Catherine Connell (or O'Connell) in Tynemouth, North Shields, Northumberland, please?
Hopefully there will be a few kids: James, Mary, Ellen.
What with the surname keeping changing and Patrick seeminly moving about as a navvy, I am hoping this is the right couple at last!
Many, many thanks!
Kate

Do you have approx dates and places of birth for Patrick and Catherine?
-
Thanks so much, stitchwitch. Catherine born 1826 in Cork, so 35-ish. Patrick also Cork but the 1861 census is the only one he appears on as he died before 1871 so no idea of age. Children's births are in variously Ireland, Kent (Gravesend - Chatham) and Shields, Durham.
-
Ah, looks like they might be in Kent again - Ancestry has Catherine Oconnell b 1827 with Patrick as spouse. I was using FindMyPast and they don't seem to be listed at all!
Shame as I was thinking about taking out a subscription with FindMyPast as I had been impressed with their website over the past couple of days.

If you've got children born in Shields, Durham that's South Shields. Probably not important though. Am trawling through the Patricks, then I'll try looking for Catherine in case he's not with her and the kids.

Oh, goodness! That's ever so kind of you, stitchwitch. :-*

Yeah, I'm less than impressed with Find My Past's indexing and some of the blunders in transcription! I find Ancestry's searching and image manipulation much better, for the censuses at least. FindMyPast's newspaper collections are quite handy though. I don't trust other people's trees on Ancestry or the LDS stuff (Family search) as far as I can comfortably spit.

Ah, glad it's not just me. I will have a look and see if there are any recommendations re the various databases available - I had assumed that they had basically all bought licenses from the same supplier but evidently not!
I totally agree about not trusting others' uploaded trees - I've corrected enough of my own errors over the years to know how difficult they can be to unpick!

Ah, you're a star, Pam! The second half of the listing is definitely the right family - the three children in the right order. What a relief, I was beginning to think they were trying to throw me off the track!
Thank you so much :-*
