Im doing a bit of research for someone that came onto my Cemetery Facebook Page. She is researching her grandmother who was accidentally shot in a pawnbrokers in Coatbridge.
There is an article in the Glasgow Herald dated 6th March 1939 states that was in the shop and the proprietor and another person were examining a revolver. The gun went off severely injuring Mrs McCluskey. Complications in her care led to her death on the 18h of April that year.
Ive searched all of my records for St Josephs and cannot find her being buried there. Her first husband, who died young is buried there. Her home address at the time of death was Jackson Street, Coatbridge.
Other that the Herald, is there anywhere else that might have reported the incident and what other Catholic Cemeteries are in the area in 1939? Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Chris

The Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser might be able to help. They have a FB page but not a website. They may have covered the event if the paper was around in 1939. You might get information on archives covering the area from them at the very least.

Hi Chris
There's an article in The Scotsman covering the fining of the pawn shop owner and explaining some of the circumstances. I've downloaded it as a PDF from ProQuest and have attached it to this message. Poor woman.

An article in another paper mentioned that she had three children, one being only 5 months. Was her husband still living? What age were the other children? Just wondering if for any reason, burial arrangements could have been made outwith the family. Could she have been buried nearer the hospital in Glasgow?

Possibly St Peters on London Road or perhaps she is in Old Monkland cemetery

Chris,
Did you try St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in New Stevenson?

Hi scotmum, Her first husband had died a couple of years before this incident. She had married again to a man called Thomas McInally. I had no idea about the children until that article. Originally she went to a local hospital, but was transferred to the Victoria to deal with the type of injury she had. She was then allowed home, but complications led to her going back to the Victoria where she died. The family home was Jackson Street, Coatbridge. Chris
