Help!
I'm trying to trace my 3xg grandfathers siblings and parents. All I know of him is he lived in Gatehouse Parc, Llanfrothen, and died in 1888 house named as Brondanw Uchaf on his Gravestone, which is at Ramoth Chapel Cemetery, Llanfrothen. He is buried there with his Wife Alice, and His Daughter Catherine, and son John Edward Jones.
Any advice? I live in Cardiff but often travel up, just not often enough to be able to use the archives etc...so far!!
Any help tips and advice is greatly appreciated in advance.
Dymuniadau Gorau,
Med.

If he was born 1820 he will have married after civil registration in 1837.
Checking for his marriage on freebmd and buying a copy of the certificate will give you his fathers name and occupation
Have you looked for him on the 1871 and 1881 censuses to establish his birthplace. Both are free here

That marriage is not 100% certain. It's based on 2 things - they were living in the Festiniog Reg District in 1851 and their eldest child was 8yrs old
However - Alice was born in Carnarvon so they could possibly have married there
1871 entry for Llanfrothen
Edward Jones 50 quarryman b Llanfrothen
Alice Jones b Beddgelert
Catherine 28 ditto
Daniel 15 son ditto
Laura Jones 1 boarding bastard (honestly - that's what it says) b Llanfrothen

Marriage of Edward Jones and Alice Evans on 8th January 1842 in the parish of Beddgelert. Both are of full age - bachelor and spinster; Edward is a miner and residence at the time of marriage is Maes gwyn llyn, Llanfrothen. His father is John Evans, farmer. Alice's residence at the time of marriage, I think reads Dines moch ??
Her father looks to read Evan Pearce, farmer.
There is a baptism on 20 August 1820, Llanfrothen, Merionethshire for Edward son of John (Evans) farmer and Mary (Owen) his wife of Mas(or Maes) gwyn llwn.
Baptism on Jan 28th 1816 in Llanfrothen, Merionethshire of Anne Jones daughter of John (Evans) farmer and Mary (Owen) his wife of Maes gwir llyn. Also 23rd January 1814, a son Edward.

Family appears in T Ceiri Griffith # 252 + # 18. (I'm very distantly related to Alice Evans).

Thank you so much Mar, how did you gain this information? Something I'd like to have a bash at... but unfortunately I only have a basic account with Ancestry.... only just startting to collect me Index Numbers for different records so I can order the records most pertinent to me....

Ah, Question.... Where did Jones come into the family if Edwards parents were John Evans and Mary Owen?
-
Hi Med, I have a subscription to FindMyPast and many of the parish registers for Wales are digitised. This means you can look at the actual images.
I wondered about the Jones as a surname for Edward, but did see that the other child (Anne 1816) had a second name of Jones.
I don't understand the Welsh patronymic naming system at all, and wonder if this is an example?
Did you also notice that Alice's father was named as Evan Pearce !

Hi
This is my wife's family and I have done a lot of research and have the family tree on Ancestry.com. Edward Jones left Getws Parc late in life and I have been pondering if he made the move or if his son, Daniel Jones, took on Brondanw Uchaf taking his parents with him. There is a further unexpected twist in the family's link to Brondanw Uchaf.
