NSW ER 1913 GOULBURN, polling at Crookwell
Ella McDONALD, Crookwell, domestic duties.
There's many others with that surname at that locality, but the roll does not give a street or road address, nor a status re marriage, nor the age of the elector. The roll is in alphabetical order, and not by household. In 1913, it was not compulsory to enrol, and you needed to be aged 21 years and over and a British Subject.

Doesn't look like my line. This one is tricky as her father changed his name from McDonald to Stuart at some point

May I ask some questions....
:) What were her father's given names? Who was her mum? Did Ella have siblings in NSW ... if so, names/places of birth, any other info to share?
:) What other information do you have about your Ella McDONALD that points to the Goulburn district pre WWI?
:) Do you have reason to believe Ella McDONALD was known as Ella STUART?

Is this young Ella McDONALD part of the family in the following thread? http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=725166.0
Is her dad the chap mentioned in this post?
I have come across new information regarding Henry William Stuart. Previous name 'MacDonald'.

:) Father: Henry William Stuart born McDonald
:) Mother: Mary Amelia Kershaw
:) Ella Purdie Stuart married Henry Mowbray Michael in Fiji Sep 16 1889. She could have been named Ella Purdie Stuart at birth for all I know.
:) Family research points to New South Wales. Crookwell, Goulburn is indicated as her place of birth in another Ancestry members family tree.

Is this your lass's New Zealand birth in 1896?
1896/1816 MACDONALD Ella
mum as Hannah and dad as William Donald Stuart
If so, in 1913, she was not yet old enough to be on any electoral roll anywhere in Australia, as she needed to be at least 21 years of age.
JM
-
Ella Purdie Stuart/ McDonald would have been born around 1871. But then again I could be wrong entirely..
But Ella married Henry Mowbray Michael in Fiji, 1889. So she would have been born a lot earlier than that date.
-
So born about 1871 .... ummm .... not young, in 1913 she would be aged about 42...
You have her as married to Henry Mowbray Michael in Fiji in 1889. What was Henry's surname and would Ella have been using his surname in 1913?
JM
-
Henry's Surname was Michael. She would have taken his last name with marriage I think.
-
Ah.. silly me.. thanls for pointing that out!
Henry's Surname was Michael. She would have taken his last name with marriage I think.
-
:) Easy slip, not to worry. But you may find it can be easily avoided if you type up surnames in CAPITAL letters, not just to give them emphasis, but also to help when looking back. :-X There's many family history buffs who have searched under the wrong surname. I say no more, but umm you can guess why I asked the question. :-X :-X :-X

And an official transcription of that may well provide quality details about when and where the baby's parents married, occupation, home address, details of older siblings to the baby whose birth is being registered....

My notes say that Ella Purdy Stuart was the third daughter of Henry William Stuart. Perhaps she is the same person as Ellen Wyatt Stuart/McDonald? The unnamed child born 1872 is probably the infant female who died the same year, and anyway was not the third (known!) daughter.

Pam, you say that in your notes, Ella is the third daughter. Do you know where you came across that information? Also, here's me wondering how I can access Name Change records... Any ideas?
