Title: 1910 American Census
Post by: pammie on Wednesday 27 July 05 12:38 BST (UK)
Can anyone help with looking up the following:

George & Sarah Du Puy, and son Lionel Du Puy.

Sarah was born in England in 1877 and Lionel was born in England in 1907.
They arrived with a relative, Bella Wood in USA  in 1908 and the destination was Los Angeles.  George Du Puy was already in USA.

Any info on if this family stayed will be a big help!

Pammie  ;D

Thank you so much Valerie that is great.

I knew that Sarahs father & brother had gone for a visit in 1909 but didnt assume they had stayed in the USA.  Wonder if I will be able to find them in 1920??

Really appreciate it..........thank you.

Hi Pammie
Unfortunately, I am having problems locating ANY of the family, Dupuy or Lomas on the 1920 census.

However, I did find the following on 1930

California, Los Angeles

DUPUY
George, Head, 53, marr 22 years, Eng, Eng, Eng, House
              Painter, to USA 1908, Naturalized

Sarah, wife, 53, Eng, Eng, Eng, to USA 1908, naturalized

Lionel G, son, 22, single, to USA 1908, naturalized,
               apprentice motion picture projectionist

WEST, John W., Brother in law, 37, single, Eng, Eng, Eng,
truck driver, to USA 1919, Alien

Perhaps the family went "home" for a visit?
Or someone else may have better luck with 1920

Regards,
Valerie :)

Hi Pammie
Here's another little bit...

California Death Index
DUPUY, Sarah
born 22 March 1877, other country
died 5 October 1955
Mothers Maiden Name: West
Fathers Surname:         Lomas

On the California Vital Records site, I found a death entry that might be "your Edward."

Lomas, Edward P.
died 4/16/1927, Age 70

If this is him, where was he in 1920?  Aaaaargh!!!

I found a birth entry for Lionel george, see below.

DUPUY    Lionel George       Bethnal G.    1c   146      BIRTH   SEP   1907

I have also found the marriage of his parents.

Surname  First name(s)    District  Vol  Page

~~~~~~~~
Marriages Sep 1899
~~~~~~~~

Du Puy  George    Hackney  1b 1097
Lomas  Sarah Eliza     Hackney  1b 1097

As they were married in Hackney I would guess that they are related to my Dupuy family as well, as they all came originally from Bethnal Green and moved north to Hackney straight up the road and probably returned to Bethnal Green when Lionel was born.

Best wishes

Jenny Smith

I think the Dupuys are listed as 'Dupey' in 1920 Ancestry index, Los Angeles, can also see Edward P. Lomas b. 1846 there but not Edward P. Lomas Jr (maybe he returned to England but not his father?)

Unfortunately I don't have full access to the census so I'm not sure if the 'Dupey's and Edward P. Lomas are in the same household/area.

Here's the information from the 1920 census in San Antonio, Los Angeles County, California. They were listed as Dupey.

George Dupey Head  43  painter
Sarah E           Wife    42  waitress
Lionel G           son     12  student
George G Groves boarder  born New York, parents born Engalnd clerk
John W West  boarder 27 chauffeur
Edward P. Lomas father-in-law 74

Everyone was born in England except George.

Hope this helps.
