Title: Ellen McColl/Littlehales/Gemmell
Post by: ali_wooding on Thursday 16 February 17 00:31 GMT (UK)
Following all the really helpful responses to my first post, while I wait for a certificate to arrive for that query, I am stuck on another.

In my niece's tree I have an Ellen McColl who was born in 1893 in St Rollox (illegitimate daughter of John Littlehales and Emma McColl).

She married Peter Gemmell as Ellen McColl Littlehales in 1916 in Anderston.

Peter Gemmell died in 1937 in Govan.

I cannot find Ellen after 1946, when her daughter got married (she was not shown as deceased on the certificate).

Not sure if anyone can help with this one?!

Was she still Gemmell on the daughters marriage cert in 1946?  Have you looked on Scotlands People for a re-marriage after 1946 under Gemmell?

She was still Gemmell in 1946. I have searched for subsequent marriages and there are a few that could be her. Not sure if it's possible to narrow down the possibilities!

Hi Ali,

There is a death in 1976 of a Helen McColl Littlehales/Gemmell aged 83 registered at Glasgow, Martha Street.  The certificate of death could be ordered from Scotlands People and should give you details of whether Ellen/Helen ever remarried.

Looby :)

I don't know how I missed that entry Looby, I swear I searched for all possible surnames...!

Thankyou!
