Title: Lamie
Post by: redoubt on Sunday 12 February 17 13:51 GMT (UK)
Jane Devine daughter of Mary Lamie, married in 1856 aged 28 so must have been born in Tyrone around 1828 or so.

Mary married a William Ferguson and later a William Little both before 1850 in Tyrone probably in Tullynisken!

Trying to find where Jane was born and details of her father. Any help appreciated.

Jane was protestant. She married John Brown in Lanarkshire 1856.

Mary her mother married Mr Ferguson in the mid 1830s. He died according to family member in 1840s and she married Mr Little therafter maybe in Ireland not sure.

As mentioned trying to find where Jane was born

Unfortunately, civil registration of births (and Catholic marriages and deaths) didn't start until 1864 so you need a location to see what church records survive. Non-Catholic marriage registration began in 1845.

Tullyniskan Parish is in Coalisland vacinity-

'Protestant' covers numerous denominations- Church of Ireland, Presbyterian, Baptist, etc.

Hi Hallmark  - I don't know where Devine fits in. I guess it could be the father's name but the only mention of it is on the 1856 marriage certificate.

What's given for father's name and occupation on her marriage certificate?

it says "Dine" field labourer.  her mother is Jane Devine ms Lambie"

Jane herself says she is a field labourer.

A relative told me her mother is not Jane but Mary. Its a bit confusing for me... hence they need for help!

Is that a church record for the marriage? exactly where did the marriage take place?
Civil certificate will list father's name & occupation but does not record any details on the mothers.

Added- just realised the marriage is Lanarkshire. So- exactly where did the marriage take place?

Have you found Jane and her mother in later census records to see what's been recorded as place of birth?

yes that is it in 1856. They are still in Lanarkshire in 1861 but not 1871. Jane dies in Lanarkshire, 1870 but her father is named William Ferguson ... not Devine

What does the 1861 census give for her place of birth? Have you found her mother in any census records? Who was the informant for her death certificate? perhaps they listed her stepfather instead of father.

My theory is Devine was her father and she was illegitimate, her mother going on to marry Mr Ferguson and then Mr Little.

sORRY MY MISTAKE - HER MOTHER MARY LITTLE IS MENTIONED IN 1861 LANARKSHIRE AGED 55 PLACE OF BIRTH TYRONE

I realise this could be a bit of a long short so please don't go to too much trouble on this. I understand Irish records are not readily available.
