Title: Rev Thomas Poynton, St Mary, Bunny, Nottinghamshire
Post by: josal on Tuesday 07 February 17 14:17 GMT (UK)
Looking for any information on the Reverend Thomas Poynton, Vicar of Bunny in Notts., from 1714 to his death in 1765.  He is buried in Bunny.  His patron at Bunny was Sir Thomas Parkyns of Bunny Hall.  I believe Thomas may have been born in Leicestershire or Staffordshire but have no further details.

Hi I see his burial records him as Mr Thomas POINTON, with no age at death, if as you say he was possibly born in Staffordshire there is a Thomas Poynton 29th August 1683 Rocester St Michael Father Elia Mother Alicia?

Thomas Pointon was admitted a sizar of Jesus College, Cambridge 5th June 1703, awarded a BA 1706-7. This might well be the same man: most clergy were graduates and there were only two universities in England. Unfortunately there's nothing more in Alumni Cantabrigienses so it's fairly unlikely that the College will hold more information about him. You could try emailing their archives - see www.jesus.cam.ac.uk for details once you're reasonably sure.
He gets a mention in the Clergy of the Church of England Database at http://db.theclergydatabase.org.uk/jsp/search/index.jsp but as far as I can tell Bunny isn't yet on the database.
At the moment the website www.bunnyvillage.org.uk seems to be non-functioning.
