Title: Ives of Thurston's research. Advice on next steps sort.
Post by: 47813 on Wednesday 01 February 17 02:37 GMT (UK)
Hello,

I have been doing some research on possible relations for my GGGG-Grandfather Jonas Ives. Born in Thurlstone, near Penistone in about 1801 (could be a year either side, only have census information to go on for birth year)

Now given that the place is only small and Ives isn't too common in the Penistone area it is a safe bet that all Ives living in Thurlstone are related to Jonas.

I've come up with a dozen or so persons and have been tinkering around with a possible tree. My reason for asking for advice is, given the time period (late 18th century/early 19th) am I now as far as I'm ever going to get with this?
Having scoured the earlier censuses, used the online records by which I mean those available on certain sites whom I'm not sure if we are allowed to mention or not. So I'll just say Mormons.

Some good finds, like the birth and Christening dates of several possible siblings and also aunts and uncles.
All possible siblings give the same parents. Alas no Jonas birth or Christening to tie in with this family.

I would like to know if more information can be found in Jonas's marriage in 1828 to Sarah Teal Briggs in Doncaster. Some records give father's name and some don't.
Is that just dependent on the record?

Thank you, and any advice on my next (hopefully) possible move would be gratefully received.

Jonathan

Great stuff. What resource did you use to glean the additional information.
There wouldn't by any chance be intel on the witnesses to the following marriage?

Charles Ives to Elizabeth Elliot, Doncaster, July 16th 1837

Noticed as well that my thread title has changed. Don't mind such much only the place name has changed to Thurston, which is in Suffolk. Don't want folk (North or South) thinking I've got the wrong thread.
It is definitely Thurlstone, West Riding of Yorkshire. Think that flaming predictive text changed it.
